fuck them all and go back to the basic concept of free market. You work for what you are worth. Historically whenever a government gets into any business, it leads to stagnation, over priced products and employees who work less for more money.

I have lost a damn good job, due to the industry I was in, taking a dump.

Probably about as much as a Pvt. had when it came to United Way in the 80's. I am not a Union supporter but I don't advocate punishing a workforce that is coerced into becoming a member. I wouldn't lose any sleep if the unions failed, but I don't want to see American industry go with it.
I have turned down jobs because I was told that union membership would be a "requirement".
Take a look at how pleased the auto workers are about their union membership. Again, we are talking about people who feel they are entitled to something.

Never turned down a raise (only becasue I am normally under paid) but I have left early becasues I refused to do busy work just to soak up more hours when I reall would not be doing anything. It is not that I didn't need the money either, becasue I did, it is just not right.Tater Nuts wrote:Question number 2 ? Unions had their time, but almost as soon as they were formed, that time was over. As a Fedral employee, we were "encouraged" to become members of the union. didn't happen. Some of the absolute shittiest work I have ever seen was done by "tradsemem" that were from unions. To tell you the truth, given the choice I wouldn't hire them even if I was required to pay prevailing wage to a non member.

There was a reason for unions, but these reasons have been history for years now because of lawsuits, OSHA and the Department of Labor laws.
Private companies use unions minimally, it is the government that employs unions the most.
Because of fees, dues, etc. the biggest winner in a union are the lobbyists and union administrators. And these well-funded lobbyists are busy in DC making sure that they will always exist, kind of like cockroaches.

I know this has bee brought up here before, but In Smyrna, Tennessee the UAW has routinely tried to get in and are always told to fuck off by the employees. They feel they are treated well and paid enough that they don't need a union. The idea behind unions was a worthy cause. But it's one that has been twisted and distorted so much that it doesn't resemble what they were originally intended for..
Where I work we just went from a small local union to a larger international one. This was partly because our small one was ineffective due to politics and egos getting in the way, so people unrealistically thought the large union would be better for us.
I was told by no less than 3 separate people that having the larger union was a mistake and they wouldn't help up at all and only take our money. So far this seems to be the case.
But at my company, and historically in the auto industry, people were getting screwed by management that didn't give a shit. (I just found out about an on the job injury my partner had last week that wont be covered by the company) Therefore the need for a union to protect the workers. Added: and yes there are always lazy workers trying to get over who aren't worth a shit.
This is a situation where everyone has to share some of the blame.

As well intended as Unions were once, this is too often the case now.Because of fees, dues, etc. the biggest winner in a union are the lobbyists and union administrators. And these well-funded lobbyists are busy in DC making sure that they will always exist, kind of like cockroaches.
