Joe,
A man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. Although you faltered a little, you appear to have recovered. If your goal is to serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right place. One of the purposes of this site is to assist young men in their quest to serve in the Ranger Regiment. You will discover that there is plenty of work as an IT geek within the organization. From your posts, I have the impression that you have already discussed your goals with a recruiter. There should not be any problems getting what you want. Before we go further, please give yourself a PT test and post your results here. Your welcome is on hold.

Ranger Jim, I will have my APFT results as of this weekend. I have to go to a future soldiers camp this weekend, in which I'll be competing against other DEP'ers from Ohio and Kentucky. Hopefully the results will be fairly good, but I know I'm lacking in run times and possibly pushups and am working to improve.
I've noticed that the question of weight and height typically arise sooner or later, so I'll go ahead and throw it out there in this post. I'm 5'8" and weigh 154lbs according to MEPS processing.

Understand. Awaiting results.Joseph wrote:Ranger Jim, I will have my APFT results as of this weekend. Understand. The events tested are push-up, sit-up, and 2 mile run. Each event is of two minutes duration. Please self-administer -- I'm trying to get a sense of your physical condition. I would admonish you to use the correct form; you can read a discussion of this issue in the PT thread. If you are serious about service in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you need to be realistic in your expectations.Joseph wrote:Ranger Jim, seems the Army's idea of a physical fitness test for DEP'ers is a short 3min. obstacle course. Not quite what I had in mind, not a bad outing though.
Needless to say, I'm still working on getting some official results for the -actual- test.

Ranger Jim,
My current 1 mile time is roughly 8:50ish....Yes, I know that's damn embarrassing compared to what I was running in high school. It's hard for me to come up with an exact number at this point because I don't know of any tracks that I can use around here and don't have a way to measure distance other than pace counting.
I just recently started back on the endurance training because I had been strength training and trying to put on some weight as I actually weighed 130lbs at the beginning of the year. I've got a lot of training to do and I'll damn sure be running at least every other day until AIT is over with in Feb. of next year.
More results to come soon, hopefully a lot better than my run time.

HOLY SLOW RUN TIME BATMAN!!! Obviously your run time sucks, if it takes you 8:50ish for one mile, how about doing two and post your results, before you do that though, knock out 2 minutes of proper pushups, rest 20 minutes and knock out 2 minutes of proper situps, rest 20 minutes and then run your 2 miles, don't cheat, cause you will only be cheating yourself. tick-tock tick-tock

Ranger Rangerguru,
I'll knockout the sit-ups tomorrow and the push-ups will probably have to wait until Wednesday as I just finished the workout for push-ups posted in the APFT section. I'm just trying to avoid interrupting my workout schedule and cramming the test results into an off day.
From what I'm starting to gather from my recent training is that my endurance is lacking A LOT. My sit-ups and push-ups are -ok-, but I know I still have a lot of work to put into this if I'm going to give RIP a worthwhile shot.

So, here we have now two Rangers who have instructed you to administer a PT test over the course of a week.Joseph wrote:Ranger Rangerguru,

You still have not complied, and continue to make excuses as to why.

Don't waste the slot, it's clear you don't want it enough and will fail.

While I am normally a laid-back man, you have really upset me. I want you to knock off the BS and comply with your instructions. This is not something you might want to do -- it's something you will do. You now have 48 hours to comply.

Don't worry about interrupting your workout plan. Substitute it with the PT test, thats what the fucking Army does, you can do it that way also.Joseph wrote:Ranger Rangerguru,

It will take you about 45 min from warm up to cool down, so instead of rubbing one out to internet porn, knock out the fucking PT test. That way we know where you stand and can give you some guidance to help you improve your performance so you're one step closer to what you say you want.
If you don't get your ass in gear you'll blow that OPT40 slot.

As far as I'm concerned, he's blown something already. His respect in the smaller than he knows it, closely knit Special Operations community.
