I went to Basic at Fort Jackson (way too damn easy). I joined the Army looking for a challenge and excitement and from what I hear being an Airborne Ranger is the way to go. I'm very interested in history and the politics of war which is why I chose my MOS 96B, but I don't wanna be behind a desk for my entire career. I know that if I stay motivated I'll accomplish all of my goals and be a good Ranger officer.

I don't understand, how are you becoming an officer if you are going enlisted. SMP?, or are you doing the under water basket weaving, on-line major?

That's right, Ranger Soul Snatcher I'm going to do the online degree thing. I was thinking about doing SMP, but its almost impossible to get an Airborne slot that way and I can't stand the thought of waiting another four years to become Airborne Ranger. So I'm hoping it works out.

It will take as long as it takes. You kinda sound like your trying to hurry up and get a status or something? If your gonna get an education, take the time to get and education, you have plenty of time to get your airborne and Ranger status. Your 17, just chill, and enjoy life, you have the rest of you life to work your ass off.

Welcome and heed Ranger Soul Snatcher's advice. You are just 17, and have plenty of time to accomplish everything you want to do. Take it one step at a time.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Smith, here's something you need to understand.PFC Smith wrote:That's right, Ranger Soul Snatcher I'm going to do the online degree thing. Just because you have a set of Jump Wings and a Ranger Tab doesn't mean your an "Airborne Ranger". All it means is that you are Airborne and Ranger qualified. There is a big difference between being a Ranger and being Ranger qualified. There are men in the Army that are Ranger qualified that haven't earned their wings.
If you want to be a Ranger you need to go to the Regt.
You can go to Ranger school and earn a Ranger Tab from almost anywhere in the Army.
Make sure you do plenty of research before you make a decision on what you want to do with your military career. It's all right here on ArmyRanger.com, all you have to do is use the search button.

It's not that I'm trying to get a status, its just that after Basic I was left wanting more. I've been back home for two months and have been bored out of my mind with school and doing the same old stuff day after day. However, I will take your advice to heart. I've been going to college fairs and things like that since I can't get an Active contract until next month. I'll have my decision by then.

Best advice I can give you, go active enlisted, Airborne, RIP, then see how life in Battlion tastes in your mouth. Why do you want to be an officer, you 17, it will take you at least 3-4 years to get where your talking about getting. Going enlisted will make you a better soldier in the long run anyway. I was a Tabbed Specialist, Senior Gunner in Weapons squad, deploying to Afganistan when I just turned 19.
Go enlisted.
Go enlisted.

Ranger SS mentioned...
AND a better officer, IMO. As a Mustang myself, I would not give up my enlisted years for anything. A man should be able to take orders before he should be allowed to give them.Going enlisted will make you a better soldier in the long run anyway.
