The Legalities of selling a firearm....
My FFL dealer had his license taken by the BATF today. He had legally sold several firearms to an elderly gentleman. This gent in turn sold several at a flea market and one was to a convicted felon/ informant. The BATF gave my dealer the option of giving up his FFL or being prosecuted. He gave it up! The elderly gent, who does not have a FFL, had seventy guns confiscated both at the market and his residence and $1000 in cash. It seems that not having a FFL doesn't protect you when you might sell to the wrong person.

SO a dealer is responsible for a weapon they sell to a legitimate buyer who in turn sells it to a felon? That semms ... well.. fucked up!

If then legal sellers of say T-80 tanks sells to a buyer with a legal end user certificate all legal and nice. The buyer in turn sells the tank or tanks to an unauthorized buyer say Iraq that means that the original seller although legal (Russia) would be liable and suffer the penalty of an illegal arms dealer.McD wrote:SO a dealer is responsible for a weapon they sell to a legitimate buyer who in turn sells it to a felon? My thoughts also - there has got to be some release in liability to the FFL if he conducts a legal transfer. If the BATF was able to go after an FFL who did a legal transfer that ended up being illegal sometime after he has released all interest in the firearm, nobody would go through the headache of getting and keeping an FFL.RGR_Dan wrote:I know nothing about FFL's and the BATF. My spidey senses are telling me that you ain't gettin' the whole story from you're dealer.
There has to be more to the story. My .02 cents.

Hmmmm.......After sleeping on it, I am thinking the same thing. He isn't fighting it and that makes me think that he thinks that maybe he has fucked up somewheres.RGR_Dan wrote:I know nothing about FFL's and the BATF.
