Off to MEPs tomorrow.

Post by Joseph PrettyDeepWater »

I have been talking to a recruiter the last week or so, and I have gone through all of the paperwork. I'll be leaving at 4 a.m. tommorow to go take my ASVAB, physical, and speak to a counselor about my ship out date.

For the year that I have been on this site it has been driven into my head that I should not sign a contract unless it says Option 40.
When I asked my SFC(head of the recruiting station) about getting the ship date that I want and the option 40 being availible, he said " if a Opt 40 is not availible when you want to ship out, then go ahead and sign the 11x and I will get the opt 40 for you before you leave" (i'd like to leave somtime in august or september of this year.) Now should I go with his advice or should I just not sign if what I want is not availible. What is the chances of a Opt 40 popping up before I leave?

thanks for your time.

None. You just said that for a year it's been driven into yer head. We ain't been driving hard enough? Yer head that hard? Or you just stupid.

You've already said it. Balls up and walk out. Option 40 or nothing. 11x Option 40 is what you will sign.

Yeah -what they said - you want to be a Ranger? That means you need an option 40 from the start.

How far is MEPS from where you live? You need to get it in your head that you are willing to make multiple trips there if necessary. Tell the jobs counselor that you're willing to come back as many times as is necessary until an option 40 is available in the MOS you want.

Son as many times as we've said this OVER AND OVER AND OVER again, you either don't get it or don't believe us.

Trust us (that is if you really want to become a Ranger or at least be given the opportunity to try).

Its up to you, just tell the recruiter like a friggin MAN and say: YOU KNOW WHAT, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY I'M NOT SIGNIN SHIT UNTIL I GET THAT OPT 40 IN "WRITING" ON MY CONTRACT. HAVE A NICE DAY!!! You do that and you'll get what you want, you don't and YOU WON'T.

Plain and simple.

If you come back from MEPS & signed to join without an OPT 40 contract we will all come to where you live and kick the living shit out of you. The line to kick your ass will be 4 blocks long.

Im finally back from MEPs, I spent 14 hours there and got my ASVAB, physical, and all of that stuff taken care of.
Unfortunatly today when I talked to the counselor he could not offer me what i wanted, so I said I would not sign until I had 11x opt 40. I go back out and sit down and wait for about 2 hours. He finally comes out and says he can get me and opt 40 as a chemical specialist. I declined and told him i'd wait for what I wanted.
To make a long story short I waited 2 more hours or so with no progress, my recruiter showed up and he took me home. Im determined to get what I want and I will go back as many times as neccesary to get it.

Thanks for all of the help and support, I'll keep you updated.
