Again, up to you. Advantages? Guess you could get picked up for OCS, add's some promotion points...if you want to be an Officer...good start. Wasn's something I wanted to be so I waited until I got out to finish.downhome wrote:Thanks Ranger Silverback
Would there be any advantages with going in with a degree?

Fuck college. I went full time for 6 years and have NO DEGREE. (No, Pastor it wasn't becuz I flunked everything
) I kept going because everyone told me "you need to go to college...blah fucking blah". I changed majors four times cuz everything bored me to fucking tears. Finally I decided that I wanted to go out and actually DO something with my life.
4 years of active duty taught me more than I would have learned in 20 years of college.
In my opinion and experience, drive and determination can get you what you want in most cases.
Just be better than the other guy in everything.
edited to add: the only good things I learned in college was how to smoke, how to drink and how to chase tail

Depends on where you stand.
If you are an immature, undisciplined jerkoff like I was you should join the Army first then go to school. If I had went to college at 18, I would have ended up in the Army at 19 but a couple of thousand $ poorer.
The experience of being in the Army definitely helped me buckle down when it came to studying. The experience of being in the Army definitely helped me drink my ass off the other 6 days of the week
.
I can't speak for others but having a degree, and going on to post graduate work, has definitely had an economic impact on my life. You should never stop learning no matter what you want to do in your life. Education and training are never negative things.
Signed,
An educated, undisciplined jerkoff.
