Introduction Charles

Post by NYCKIDD »

My name is Charles, I'm 22 years old from New York City. i graduated from H.S. in 2008 and currently have 19 college credits. I have been wanting to be an Army Ranger for some time now and will do everything i can to accomplish my goal. Back in December I went to speak to a recruiter and everything was going smooth until i mentioned an option 40. He told me the higher i get on the asvab the less jobs would be available because i would be overqualified. I just shook my head in disappointment, walked out and never went back. Earlier this week i decided to push try luck and again and head to Times Square to speak to another recruiter and i will be going to meps this Tuesday to take asvab and possible talk contracts.

today i just finished the Stew Smith Pushup workout. He recommends 3 days rest before i retest, so Monday my push-ups will be posted

Welcome. Yankees suck. What is your 2mile run time? How about your pull-ups?

These are huge factors on the road to Regiment.

Hello rangers it has been a while since I last posted. My recruiter is giving me a really hard time obtaining option 40. The first time I ever stepped foot in the office I made it clear that I wanted a 11x option 40 or even a 13f/68w. But ever since I took the asvab and qualified for it he has tried to get me to go the 18x or he keeps saying that he is confident that if I just take a 11x and basically knock the fish out of the water at oust he can promise that I will be offered a shot at rasp ( I dont believe this nor do I want to take the chance). I dont have a problem with waiting for one to pop up. He has said he will terminate my packet and in order to get back in the system he will need to get a authorization from his commanding officer. Which I think is a bunch of bs. Im ready to just tell him what I need to tell him in order to get to meps and just play hardball. its my career not his.

Why are you still not capitalizing the "R" in Ranger? It is a requirement on this site.

Im heading to meps tomorrow to take the physical. If im not mistaking the new fiscal year begins in about another week. My recruiter says it begins on September 15, but I think he's just tring to meet the quota for the end of the year. I've researched it on numerous occations and seen that the fiscal year ends September 30 and begins October 1. With that being said I will hold out for an option 40. Since the new fiscal year is so close.
I have learned much from this cite in my journey to take the best route in becoming an Army Ranger and I hate it when recruiter has a job and his job is to give information, advise, guidence to a recruit to take the best path in accomplishing a goal that a recruit has had is heart and mind on. But some recruiters just want to bag and tag you and send you on your way instead of being upfront from the beginning. If a recruiter doesnt want to take the time and be truthful nor have the patients to for that particular job that a recruits want tell him/her to go elsewhere and seek the help therefore noones time gets wasted.
He has also told me to stay off of this cite. He has told me that it's nothing more than a third party website that gives out misleading information and knows nothing about recruiting. I informed him that this cite is run by current and former Rangers ,but I think it has fell on deaf ears.

As he uses me to reach a quota I will use him to get to meps and get what i want in writing. I read in Ranger Goon175 say in another post that quitting comes in many forms. giving up to soon is on of them.

In fact we have at least one active duty recruiter on-site. With his help, we try to stay informed. Good luck at MEPS.

Ranger Jim thank you. It just really pissed me off that he has said that. I dont think anyone that has came to this cite ever felt misslead. All the Rangers here have given us civilians the best advise anyone can ask for, but when you walk to a recruiter he expects us to know nothing. But when we as recruits drop a little knowledge that we have learned from past and present Rangers the recruiter are left feeling some type of way that the catch that they thought would be an easy one would infact be a tough one to reel in.

You hit the nail on the head when you said It's your career, not his. The vast majority will do and say anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. Unless he has been on this site, how does he have any idea what information is put out? Jobs excluded because you score to high on the ASVAB? I never heard of such BS in all my life! If anything, the MOS world would be your oyster! When I found out my test results the recruiter basically took the MOS book, threw it on the desk, and said "Pick one. You pretty much qualify for anything.."

If anything has been evidenced here it is that you should hold out for what you want, whether it is "Broad-cast Journalism Specialist" (too bad they didn't have those slots in Batt..) or 11B w/ opt 40. You are most definitely in the drivers seat until you sign and raise your right hand.

BTW, if the time comes and you need a mentor, lemme know. I've been meaning to get down to the city for a long time.

Oh yeah, and like Cams said, The Yankees Suck!..

Yes Ranger The Sleepy Doc the recruiter I went to before I took the asvab told me the higher I score will be bad because I would be over qualified for jobs. Now the recruiter that I have now knew that I wanted Rangers in my contract, but now that I qualified with my asvab score, he insist that I should take a 11x, but I rather have it in my contract.

Finally got done with meps today. by far one of the longest days most boring day in my life, but i can say that it was worth it. after all the bs ive been through i finally have an 11x opt 40 to show for it. This has to be one of the best days in my life but i know the journey is not finished by a long shot. I have a long challenging road a head of me and i know the army expects me to fail, but im going to grab the bull by the horns and give it 100 percent every single day. Failing is not an option for me.
