A Nam Brother in Need

Post by garyedolan »

Image
The above picture is of Rocky with the 173rd at Hill 875 on Thanksgiving Day & before he joined Charlie Rangers.
Just got this eamil brom Regis Murphy about our War Brother Rocky Stone:
"'War Brothers',
Just got off the phone with Deb and Rocky Stone. Rocky just returned from the VA Hosp. they issued meds and said he was a stroke wating to happen, he is also entering the beginning of dementia, by the way he sounded and per Deb. Their 4 WD transportation is down and it will take @3K+ to get it fixed. If we can't help Rocky, who can we help/who deserves it more? He survived 875 and more importantly us (E/20-C/75) I'm asking each of you to send something to them and let's do some good for each other here in the fourth quarter?
Thank you. Murph, aka 'Romeo 4-7'
PS for all of you who still owe me money from AnKhe, Pleiku, and Phan Thiet, Nha Trang as well as the Ashau, just send it to Rocky and I'll call it even..... Love ya! " Address for Rocky Stone, 9210 Kinsella Road, Brimley, MI 49715 Whatever you can afford would be greatly appreciated.

A picture says a lot of words... Rocky's picture from Hill 875 sparked me to find out the story behind the Hill.

Here is a snip it from the final paragraph from a Wikipedia article: The battle of Hill 875 had cost 2/503 87 killed, 130 wounded, and three missing. 4/503 suffered 28 killed 123 wounded, and four missing. Combined with noncombatant losses, this represented one-fifth of the 173rd Airborne Brigade's total strength. For its combined actions during operations around Đắk Tô, the 173rd Airborne Brigade was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.

As many have said in other ways... the 'Nam error Rangers were THE catalyst for me to resign a reserve commission and enlist with an Opt 40. A thank you note & check to Rocky is on it's way.
