F-22s Deployed Near Iran

Post by Flesh Thorn »

The U.S. military has deployed several F-22s, the nation's most advanced fighter jets, to an allied base less than 200 miles from Iran.
The Air Force strongly denies this deployment is meant as a show of force against Iran or that it is in some way related to a potential strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Rather, it says this is all part of a routine deployment and "security cooperation with regional partners."

In a conventional engagement, air superiority must be established early and decisively. Just saying....

F22 is an amazing bird...that cannot go air-to-ground. The USAF asked for it to be designed that way (which was genius. Can we say appropriatins). Which means the F35 will have to be unfucked for our forces to have a next gen ground attack bird. Especially considering the "Air war" is gonna last about 2 days and the 35 will be much more useful against what is a serious air defense network.

That network has to be punched before SOCOM/82nd/101st can insert by air.

Absolutely understood, but Iran has an Air Force.... So it will be necessary to knock that out quickly and rule the air so the slower less maneuverable ATG aircraft can support troops on the ground.

I wonder if the Iranians saw that movie where Clint Eastwood steals that super duper Russian Jet & in that recent lost drone that landed in Iran were the pilot instructions for the F-22.
New movie anybody?

Hell, with this administration, they are most likely being posted there so that they can shoot down Israeli warplanes on the way to take out Iran. Can't have those pesky Jews taking out the Muslim brothers, you know.

So regarding air-to-ground, are the A-10s still effective? Possibly my favorite modern aircraft.....

More sabre rattling. I'd say the Iranians greatest fear insofar as strikes against nuclear facilities are concerned, would be massive bunker buster bombs delivered by B-2 or B-52 bombers. Boeing just raised the bar from standard 5,000 lb bombs to 30,000 lb bombs. The air force started taking delvery last year.

IMHO and experience, as far as fast movers go, it is the God of ATG.

I still prefer the sound of an Apache pair though. Even though the closest I ever came to dying from blue on blue was because of an Apache.

Actually it can carry air to surface munitions in the internal bay like the JDAM, but it's only limited to 2,000lbs. and it can't self designate for laser guided weapons. In a test it dropped a 1,000lb JDAM from 50,000 feet and hit a moving target 24 miles away. As long as an Army Ranger is on the ground with a laser designator it'll hit anything :)

Did not know that. I do know the AirFarce specifically asked for the design to not go ATG. If it did there would be no justification for the F35. Except that the F18 is ageing and the Navy could use a better strike package, that's just my opinion though.
