What is considered a Ranger?

Post by TRLewis »

Probably get smoked for this, but the question has been bugging me for weeks. I was reading some book with LRRP's/Rangers about the time of transition. They had some stateside guy come over who went to Ranger school.

This got me thinking, how do members of the regiment view those who have graduated Ranger school? As in are they considered Rangers, or just wannabes?

Bat Boys consider school graduates as Tab Wearers.
They consider (RVN era) LRRPS and other similar troops as Rangers.

The only real Rangers (with noted exceptions) are in BN. All others are Ricky Rangers.

Exactly right. Just not to offend anyone but Korea and WW2 Rangers are obviously considered Rangers too. If you just graduated Ranger school then you are just Ranger qualified. You must serve in a Ranger unit to be considered a Ranger even if you are not Ranger qualified.

Thank you Rangers. I can wipe the sweat from my brow. I thought I was going to be seriously flamed. Thank you.
