my recruiter says i cant retake the ASVAB
i spoke with an Army recruiter yesterday, and he is telling me a few things.
1) that a Ranger contract (11x opt 40) is not available
2) that i can not retake my asvab to gain the 1 point needed on my GT score
i took my first initial ASVAB 8+ months ago when i was trying to get into the Marine Corps. i scored a 69, with a GT score of 106 (107 needed for RangerS)
is it true that there are no 11x opt 40s available, or should i wait and see?
and would i definitely need to retake the asvab to raise to gt score, or would they let me go by 1 point?
also, i feel like im being pressured and bs-ed about not being able to retake the asvab.

Retests are subject to approval by the MEPCOM commander.
According to AR 601-210:
Recruiters are not authorized to have applicants retested for the sole purpose of increasing aptitude area scores to
meet standards prescribed for enlistment options or programs.
If you score above a 50 (making you a grad-alpha) you cannot retake the test.
I feel for you bro, 1 point, thats a tough break. The opt. 40 GT score standard used to be 110 (up to a 3 point waiver authorized), but since a waiver for something like that will always be approved (there not Rangers, what do they care), The standard was just lowered to 107, no waiver authorized.
Something for you to look into, 18x contracts require a 107 GT score, but they howeverer do not bar the waiver option, as the opt. 40 does. Or, sign a 3 year 11x Opt. 4 contract, once you get to your unit go to the Ed Center and enroll in FAST classes, which can raise your GT score. Do this right away, even though you will be a cherry private with lots to do as it is. Now, the 3 year contract part is important. You can re-enlist 2 years from your ETS date, so that means at 1 year and maybe plus some, you can re-enlist, and get a RASP slot as an option on your re-enlistment. Hope this helps, again, I feel for ya, but it is what it is, and standards are standards.

Re: my recruiter says i cant retake the ASVAB
Thank you Ranger Goon175. ive looked into the special forces, but as determined as i am, i fear that i run the risk of dropping out, which i dont want to considering if u voluntarily withdraw you may never try again, especially having no former military training. maybe one day down the road ill go for that...so as far as the 3 year contract part...goon175 wrote:Retests are subject to approval by the MEPCOM commander.

if i follow those steps i should be able to go through RASP? but that means that would start at the end of my first enlistment, not any sooner correct?
and do you think by any chance if i have my recruiter call up ROC that they may allow me to go in to an option 40 contract without even needing a waiver?
thank you, Don.

Voluntarily Withdraw means that you quit. You are either a quitter or not, it doesnt matter whether you are trying out for SF, Ranger, SEALs, PJ's, Boy Scouts, Mary Kay, or a French Finance Clerk.
The standards are the standards, the ROC cannot change the standards. Man up and take 18x or take your chances in the Big A, as I see it those are your two options.

And who was this smartassed reply for? If you want to stay on this site, you need to adjust your attitude.heartofalion89 wrote:I'll be sure to capitalize the beginning of my sentences.
As far as the rest of your drivel goes, you failed to meet standards. You failed. You aren't special enough to deserve to have the standards changed. I don't care how many teachers and mom said you're a special little snowflake, you're playing in the real world now.
And you're not mature enough in my opinion based on your actions here for 18X.
Fuck around with the Rangers here and you won't stay long.

Is it just me or do at least half of the kids that come on the site to ask advice end up telling us to go fuck ourselves when we give it to them?
Kid, if you're afraid to go 18X maybe you should change your username to tinyheartsyndrome or bigsloppyvagina because as goon said, you're either a quitter or you're not.

Re: my recruiter says i cant retake the ASVAB
The first winnowing of the herd is at the recruiting station. Being a Special Forces soldier or a Ranger means that you are willing to accept risk.
If you find that it is too great of a risk to try out for SF or the 75th when the only consequence of failure is having to serve your country in the regular army, then the risks inherent in jumping out of perfectly good airplanes is clearly too great for you, to say nothing of war.
Should you decide to call our bluff, make sure you post again with a link to this thread if you graduate RASP or SFQC.
