Overdue update

Post by ICwrestler8745 »

Rangers,

It's been a while since I've posted, however now seems like a good time for an update. After a long road, I graduated RASP class 05-10 in may. I just wanted to thank every Ranger on this site that has taken the time to post advice and information for guys like me. Reading the posts and all the other info everyone has given out prepared me so much more than I knew. Anyways i'm still down at Benning, driving through the rto course. Headed to battalion next week. I'm excited to finally employ all the training we've done here.

Thanks again. Would have never made it without your help.

I am excited to get out of this gd humidity. I'm looking forward to the terrain change. If there is anyone who has some advice for a new cherry headed to batt. I would appreciate any words of wisdom. Again, thank you for your service and look forward to attempting to live up to the Ranger standard and making all Rangers, past and present proud.

You don't need anymore advice, just keep doing what you have been doing. It's just that now the authority figures and instructors are not going to disappear in 6-8 weeks. They are now your chain of command.
But as I'm six hours into a gallingly boring twelve hour shift, here goes:

Of your RASP class, expect about half of those who are wearing those brand new berets will be gone in eight-ten months. As has been said, the hard part is about to begin. Even though your accomplishment in getting this far is significant, in terms of where you stand in the Ranger/SOF community, you're for shit right now. You don't actually know anything - you've been taught just enough to be able to function in a Ranger company. That is where your real education begins, where you'll hone the skills and will learn to work in a team that you will be going to war with.

Your real testing and selection is about to begin. Nothing formal, it's social as much as professional. The rest of your squad has just returned from war and are about to go again, except they now have an unknown quantity alongside - it's you. They need to know who and what you are. So you will be tested; professionally, physically, morally and as a man, to see how and if you'll fit in. You will succeed in this phase or you won't. Be all eyes and ears and no matter the task, 110% and then some etc etc etc.
