Rangers,
My name is Scott and I am currently a holdover,
having recently completed the 25B (IT Specialist -
"Commo") AIT at Fort Gordon. While I had no options added
to my enlistment contract, my unit hosted a briefing by an
Airborne Recruiter. I immediately signed up for the
opportunity.
After he spoke, we had an unplanned visit from a
Ranger Recruiter who spoke about the elite soldiers known
as the Rangers. From that day I promised myself that I
would do everything in my power to hopefully one day
become a Ranger. I filed for a RIP packet and have just
found my original orders to be scrubbed and changed to the
RGR INDOC TR DET in Fort Benning.
Since then I have trained harder than I could
imagine. I have studied the Ranger Creed, the History of
the Rangers, and PT'd myself to death. Here is my latest
PT score,
71 Pushups
72 Situps
12:47 2 mile
To this day I continue to train myself to raise my
physical standards as far as possible. I will never be
satisfied and I will never quit.
Sadly enough however, I will be stuck here a LONG
time waiting for an airborne slot to begin my journey.
Until then, I was hoping I could get some pointers
on what to expect from RIP and how to train for such a
demanding course. Also, it is expected that I am to go to
RIP during the cold month of January. I am not the most
cold-agile soldier so any pointers from that aspect would
be much appreciated.
My last concern is one of a “commo” soldier. I am
unfamiliar to life in the Ranger Regiment, and If I were
make it to these ranks, would I ever be equal among these
combat experts? If I could go back and change to 11x O40
I would in a heartbeat but as we all know, such a wish is
impossible.
Once again thank you for all the advice,
Scott

Re: Introduction - Scott
Congratulations on getting the oportunity to become a Ranger. You will find answers to many of your questions in the "About RIP" forum on this site. Your PT scores are good, but you have room for improvement and should be able to get yourself up to 100 points in each event by the time you head to BAC. As far as the cold goes, get used to it in November and December.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

Re: Introduction - Scott
You should be in the other introduction thread as you are already on active duty. I'll take care of it.

Well, your intro is about 200x better than most folks, so you got that going for you.
