Introduction- Dustin
Hello all, my name is Dustin, I am a 29 y/o from Louisville, KY. I have signed up with Option 40 and am set to depart Oct. 13th for Ft. Benning to start OSUT. I currently work in the healthcare field and have for the past 6-7 years. I have always wanted to join the military but did not have the maturity to make that heavy of a decision till now. I have no children or wife and that window of opportunity tends to close very quickly if you do not take it in time. I have found throughout this decision process of joining and the subsequent HUGE paycut, that money most certainly isn't everything. I am excited at the opportunity to join the ranks of the Ranger community and will be browsing this site frequently so I felt it necessary to introduce myself.
Thanks,
Dustin
Thanks,
Dustin

Dustin,
Not a bad intro. Not well above average, but not bad either. Welcome.
Your not a kid anymore. You will find that your age is WELL above the average. You will discover that this site and ALOT to offer if you read and use the search button.
Just curious, why the " Pfc " in your name ? I hope that it is NOT in reference to a military rank that you have not earned yet.
How is your P.T. ?
Two words of advice: NEVER QUIT
You might hear them again.

Ranger Ranger513,
PT results are admitedly weak at the moment. PU=41 SU=57 2 mile=15:44 CU=6. I ship in mid October so obviously my main goal is to get those numbers up and down as needed prior to OSUT.
In regards to the PFC, it is the advanced rank I will be going in as due to my college hours. It was listed on my Future Soldier ID card so I used it. If this is offensive because I have not yet earned the right to wear the uniform due to not going to OSUT then my apologies to all it offended on this site. Obviously, I did not intend to "pose".
Thanks for the advice and the awesome avatar.

Re: Introduction- Dustin
Welcome and congratulations for enlisting for the opportunity to become an Army Ranger. Yeah, you got some serious work to do regarding PT. You know that, so get to it. You have about 10 weeks and that is enough time if you don't waste it, or do something stupid like push yourself too hard and get injured. And you should correct the PFC in your title. While technically you are entering in the pay grade of E-3, which is a PFC, you have not yet served or even begun your training. Check out the PT formum on this site for advice on PT and be sure to read and heed the ROE PM I have sent you.

Re: Introduction- Dustin
Rangers,
Well my ship date is just around the corner, Oct. 13th to be exact. Initially, I revelled over the 3 month wait, now I look around and wonder where all the time went but I am excited to finally be setting off on this journey and starting this new chapter and new career in my life.
I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of you first and foremost for your service and secondly for sharing the large quantities of information posted on this site. Not just the great "stickies" but the other small, yet important lessons that I think will serve me well in the months/years to come. #1) NEVER QUIT #2) Stay in your lane! #3) Be informed before speaking or do not speak at all, be independent when seeking answers. #4) "The effective range of an excuse is exactly, 0 meters. Those are just a few and not all exactly word for word but you get the point.
Making the decision to join the Army was an easy one for me and as anyone who has joined to serve knows, it's not without it's sacrifices either via the applicant or the applicant's family or in many cases both. To succeed for me is the only option. I spent many years trying to accrue material things and I've had to sell all those things with exception to my car and clothes to make this dream a reality. And what I have found in that, is that compared to the pride I have in what I am about to do those things really have no meaning at all and are nice but worthless. What it means to stand for something more and bigger than yourself never was so apparent to me than it is to me today.
Rangers, you all keep leading the way, because the example you set will guaruntee that there will always be someone willing to follow you! Hooah, will try and post a SitRep when the time comes available.

Good luck KyGoose! One more piece of advise: Give 100% every minute of every day and only associate with those that do the same!

Re: Introduction- Dustin
Ranger Jim,
Current PT results are as follows:
PU= 55 quality with good form
SU= 74
2 mile= 15:00 even
Still much room for improvement I know, but I feel confident that between now and RIP in May I can and WILL square those numbers away in a proffesional fashion. Failure is not an option.
