liver is no longer functioning correctly. The liquid that should pass through his liver has leaked into his stomach area. It will slowly kill him if it is not fixed. Commonly known as "liver belly".Mr_Handsome wrote:

That made me wonder if you were pulling my leg so I looked it up. I learned something today. Thanks!rgrokelley wrote: liver is no longer functioning correctly. Link to articleMany people with liver failure get a very swollen abdomen because fluids that usually pass through the liver cannot do so. Fluid in the belly (called "ascites") can stretch the skin tight enough to be uncomfortable or can press against the lungs, making it necessary to remove part of the fluid with a needle. Because the liver is not making the proteins needed in the blood, fluid often seeps out of the bloodstream into the tissues, causing generalized swelling (edema). This swelling affects the belly, legs and arms, and sometimes the face. Elevation of the legs, diuretic medications, and fluid and salt restriction may help these symptoms.
Bleeding is fairly common, because the failed liver is no longer able to make essential clotting substances. For example, there may be oozing from the gums when teeth are brushed and large bruises may appear on the skin. In some cases, bleeding becomes the life-threatening event, usually with bleeding into the stomach. Treatments for this kind of severe bleeding may include interventions to block the blood vessels and transfusions of clotting proteins and of blood.

Re: What's Wrong with this Picture?
In August I was 257 pounds. I have never weighed that much, and I'm still in a job that you can get fired at for being too fat. I picked up a book "The 7 principles of Fat Burning". It explains the whole "liver belly" thing.GoldCoast wrote:That made me wonder if you were pulling my leg so I looked it up. I learned something today. In a nutshell, you aren't really fat. You have a fucked up liver. The way to tell this is if you aren't really fat everywhere else, but you have a big abdomen. Another way to tell is if you constantly work out, but you never lose weight. This is because there is no real fat, it is just that fucked up liver thing. This is really common in the U.S.
So I played the game, and followed the directions in the book. I am down to 215 now (3 months). I'm still playing the game, and my goal is to get to 200 (what I weighed when I retired).
Its not really a diet, but more of a lifestyle change. Diets are temporary, and when you are done you gain it all back. This one is something that needs to continue.
