One of the most important things I learned at Batt....

Post by BadMuther »

Was the ability to ignore pain.

Whenever I'm on a long ruck march or someother long endurance type exercise, my mind drifts off to some other place, and doesn't concentrate on the pain. I enjoy those times.

For you DEPS "One foot in front of the other" and "Never Quit" should be your new mantra.

Roger that....

-Limitations both physically and mentally.
-Batt was not a perfect organization but the most perfect I have ever known.
-A brotherhood unmatched by anything other than comrades in a combat zone.
-The ability to put up with shit from higher ups, especially when you are the low man on the totem pole. This 'hits home' when you have to lead people in a war zone (x's 15 when they are Iraqis.)
-The ability to critically think which helps when you leave Batt.
-The apiphany that we all were spoiled rotten in Batt. Both the leaders and line dogs. This became really obvious in the contract world where scrounging and fighting for every little fucking thing became an art form.

I prefer to let other peoples pain motivate me. A voice in my head always said "Look at Tentpeg over there falling out, making the suck face, or whatever don't be that guy."

Thing I learned and will always try and remember still,

Nothing Lasts Forever!
Eventually, it all comes to an end. One way or the other!

That personal mantra has got me through some shit, unfortunately it also kept me grounded during some rather not so shitty times. Either way you look at it, nothing lasts forever!

Personally, I think you already had that quality, or you never would've made it to Battalion. So, to start a thread about it is just....................welll, gay.

Not in a Batt, but the things I learned:
Your body can learn to accept ANYTHING!
Your mind will keep you going LONG after your body thinks it's done.
There are places in your mind that you NEVER thought existed.
When your mind and body are both done, your HEART will get you through!
I never wore a cape, but I still have my dog tags.
