Hoisting the flag!
A few weeks ago, I went hiking about 40 miles South from home (near Eureka, Utah). I found a spot that was the highest point in that area with overlooks from every direction.
Last night, I decided to prep. equipment for hoisting a 5x7' flag atop the peak.
I took my 4wd ATV (Kawasaki Brute Force 750i), 50 pounds of concrete mix, 2 gallons of water, 2 sections of taped-up 8' PVC and the 5x7' flag from my home's flag pole.
I dug a 1.5' hole in the rocks, affixed the two PVC halves to form a 16' pole, poured in the concrete mix & water and piled 3' of rocks around the base.
The end result:
For those of you in the area, the GPSr coordinates are:
N 40° 00.207 W 112° 11.815
Soon after, a monster thunderstorm set in, the temperature dropped, the thunder and lightning began and hail followed by heavy rain downpours.
Needless to say, I had to ATV 20 miles back to my truck/trailer and arrived muddy, wet and cold.
Was it worth it? YOU BET IT WAS!

Here's the YouTube video shortly after the flag went up. I left it overnight, then came back today to take it down. I'll upload the final YouTube video later tonight or Monday.

If the environmentalists and EPA find out about this you may face fines and jail for despoiling nature, destroying the mating grounds for some 1/16 of an inch insect, and construction without a permit and environmental impact statement.

Yeah, I know. I frequent an Outdoors enthusiast site and got a rash of shit for posting the flag 1) without a permit on public lands, 2) for leaving a trace (concrete, flag, etc).Ranger Bill wrote:If the environmentalists and EPA find out about this you may face fines and jail for despoiling nature, destroying the mating grounds for some 1/16 of an inch insect, and construction without a permit and environmental impact statement.
I did recover the flag and clean-up behind myself. I will be coming back with a solid aluminum pole and remounting the flag with the intent of maintaining it since I frequent that area at least monthly.
I'm sure there will be plenty of tree-huggers giving me shit about it, but this area isn't quite what I would call pristine wilderness.

Okay, so it's a bit cheesy, but:
The day after raising a 5x7' flag atop the Tintic Mountains, I raced back (speeds of 50-70mph on my ATV), to take the flag and pole back down.

Very cool BruteForce!
It's actually incredibly lame that any citizen of this country would have anything objectionable to say about your actions here.
P.S. Nice choco-chip DCUs. I think you found the terrain they were meant to camo up with.
