Hi Rangers,
Here's a quote from "The Guard Experience" magazine I received yesterday in an article about 19th Group:
"There is no maximum age to joing the SF. Soldiers must go to Airborne School, where their drills could consist of jumping into a training area. A 24-mile ruch march is included in their 14-day selection board."
Did they drop a week off of SFAS, or is this writer full of crap? Or is this two week thing something that the Guard does for SF candidates now, kinda like Ranger Prep? Thanks.

I'm stunned. Any thoughts on this from anyone who's BTDT? Hell's bells, how much fat coud there have been, if it was only 3 weeks long to begin with?SFAS is 14 days now.
PS Ranger Siverback, I couldn't find it on the online version either. I guess they don't bother to match up the paper version with the cyber version. You're not missing much anyways. The article was pretty short, and for obvious reasons didn't have much detail other than to point out that the support types in an SF Bn are called upon to do more and be more than they are anywhere else.

I was in the first SFAS. They actually called it SFOT then (pronounced Softee). That was only 20 days long, and it was a TDY trip.rehevam wrote:I'm stunned. Hi, My son just finished up 4 years in Rangers. Re-enlisted, went to SFAS at Bragg and is now at Bragg waiting his Q course to start. His SFAS class consisted of proven soldiers from different units. no 18X soldiers. Many things wre ran through pretty quick since it was material they were pretty accustomed to. This class went through SFAS in 6 days. Not much sleep and no free time in those 6 days. many didn't finish course, many didn't get selected. So even though it use to be 30 days and was shortened to 14 days they will sometimes run through it as fast as possible. Soldiersdad

I spoke to my former FSO who went to SFAS back in the late 90's as enlisted and now just went through as a CPT. He told me, in short, that the two week course was actually harder because of everything they crammed into it. So I guess take that for whatever it is worth.

We're getting lots of SF these days at PRC and by all accounts SFAS is a kick in the balls.

i've been through both the 24 day course back in 06 and the 14 course now in march of this year. i will say that the 14 day course while shorter is definitely much harder. my first time through i was amazed at the amount of downtime we had to do whatever. somehow the cadre managed to pack almost all 24 days into 14 (land nav is cut down a bit and team is a little shorter). beyond that i won't go into specifics about the course. yes the xray program is alive and kicking...i am one....sorta. prior service. my class had about 350 start and only around 160 finish and about 130 get selected. hope this answers some questions.
