Post by Mom2aSoldier »

Good evening Rangers and family. My name is Rose. My son left for OSUT on July 15 and is enlisted as an 11x OPT 40. I have one big question;

When do you stop wondering and worrying about whether they will make it through?

I've been reading on here for about a week or so about RIP and Ranger School and I give every one of you credit for having gone through the training. I know my son can do this because this is what he really wants, but as a parent it scares the hell out of me for what is ahead of him. I guess I just need reassurance that he is still going to be in one piece when this is all done...LOL

I'm sorry for the weak intro, still recovering from ACL reconstruction and trying to clean the kids room. Hopefully the Army will teach him how to be neat and orderly since it seems to be the one thing I couldn't pound into his head.

You are a Mom..... you will never stop worrying (at least mine never has). Time will tell if he will make it as it is in his hands now. Keep your fingers crossed and just keep giving him encouragement.

His ruck will be packed precisely, his uniform pressed and clean, and his weapon will be spotless. But, unfortunately, his room will likely remain a pigsty.

Welcome to ArmyRanger.com, Rose, and to the most wonderful - and one of the toughest - jobs on earth: Being a mom to a warrior. Thank you for raising him strong, and for letting him follow his dream. There are much more worrisome and very much worse things that can happen to a young man.

See you in the Fox Hole - there are some very excellent women here who applaude your decision to support your son as he serves.

 I left my mother that little challenge also.

Don't throw away his comics, they might be worth something on eBay on 2019.

Seriously, he's in good hands, especially if he makes it all the way. He'll be well trained & led by the best. Even if he does wind up in legland somewhere, we've been at war long enough for his entire NCO chain of command to be combat experienced and that's worth a lot.

Just make sure that when he returns in his uniform, wings, badges and all proud, that you introduce him as "your baby".
It'll keep him humble. Don't ask how I know

Welcome aboard, lots of other parents here who can address your unique concerns.

Welcome to the site Rose.

My best advice would be to keep encouraging him. Whether or not he makes it to a Ranger Bn. is all up to him. You can tell him to ignore any and all rumors concerning RIP or Ranger Battalion. Lots of kids justify why they quit and tell some story to make themselves feel better. It's better for him to "see it for himself" than to believe any rumor.

Does that also go for DVD of "Casting Call Cuties"? LOL

Nothing like cleaning and finding that, of course my husband is planning on giving him a good natured rousing about not having a better "movie" when we go down for graduation.
Ranger Kilted Heathen will be along shortly, he always has priceless advice for Ranger Moms. Welcome.
I have read some of Ranger Kilted Heathen wise words. He seems to tll it like it is and holds no punches.

I want to thank all the Rangers, wives and family who said and hi and reassured me this is a normal process. I will keep everyone updated with his progress and will give him the information to the site once he is done with all his training.

Welcome to ArmyRanger.com, Rose! Obviously you and your husband have done a pretty good job thus far. Now it is up to your son to make his way. Tell him to just do his very best every minute of every day and only hang around with others who do the same.

Be proud and give him positive vibes.
