An update before I ship out

Post by jmil »

I have only a handful of posts on these forums but I'd like to post an update on where I stand. Without sounding like too much of a kiss ass I feel as though I owe a huge thank you to all of the Rangers and other helpful members of these forums. I have yet to even ship out but without stumbling across this website the words "Option 40" would mean nothing to me.

I swore into the DEP back in February with plans to finish the semester of college I was in and to do PT until I puked. March came around and my father got out of jail which basically forced my mother to either move out of our house or live with an addict. To make things easier on her and my little sister I moved into a house with some friends, and consequently started slacking on my workouts.

As much as it embarrasses me to say this I am not where I should be PT-wise. I know 110% that I fucked up. While I don't regret spending valuable time with my family and friends I do regret the fact that I pissed away time that could have been spent preparing myself for the road ahead.

At this point there is nothing to do but suck it up, work my ass off in basic and AIT, and not quit. I put myself in this position and now I am going to work my way out of it.

Thank you Rangers for you time.

Yes, you are going to have to suck it up. There are a lot of young men waiting to get a shot at what you have. Don't let it go to waste.

NEVER QUIT!!!

Drive on and give it all you have and then some. As Ranger Silverback said, it's more mental than anything else, and it is up to you to never quit, especially when they are telling you to quit and that it's okay to quit. You will do fine with the right attitude.

Do push-ups.

Get a break do push-ups,

Knock one off do push-ups.

Go into it with the right attitude. As they say "with it or on it" it's do or die and never quit.

Some say it's mind over matter. (It's in your mind and it doesn't matter to me).

Good luck.

That's a priceless, and often overlooked nugget of wisdom.

Within the first week of training this crowd will begin to show itself. They're not neccessarily the guys at the front of every run or ruckmarch in the beginning, but you'll notice they focus on what's being taught, they'll be off on their own practicing what they're weak at, and you'll be able to tell they're giving everything 100%. This is the group to attach yourself too. If you don't see a group like this by the first week, then fucking start it. You display these qualities, and like minded men will gravitate to you.

If you're worried about PT, there are times in Basic to do extra PT...do it. PT in Airborne school is a joke. Kick your own ass everynight after training, or else you will have a significant emotional event when you get to RIP. Good luck

And maybe only 1% (ArmyRanger.com) Rangers post here, more than likely, 50+% of active Ranger posters have read this topic & will be waiting for your future sitreps.
