Intro.

I'm a 39 year old Brit and I'm an 'orrible civvy to boot.

I was for a loooong long time, a very junior NCO (think big kid) in a commando and then para/airborne/air assault unit (or whatever name G7 or whoever makes up this sort of stuff are calling it this week).

I left in 04, and somehow found myself wandering around the Middle East for a couple of years...generally complaining about the weather, the locals and the sand in my chips.

The long haired Colonel issued instruction for my return to base location, citing worries regarding my health and safety (I was enjoying the freedom to punish my kidneys without being under her microscope a bit too much...bitter and twisted?...oh no...not this callsign).

Since the order of march back to Blighty, I've appeared in couple of movies, broke my toe playing football, and landed a job with the Royal Navy.

I was put on to this by a similar site, "The British Army Rumour Service" (www.arrse.co.uk), as a result of oxygen thief "walting" on here as ex-SF (Brit type).

After a couple of pages, I decided that it might be a hip and swinging idea, to try hanging out with the cool and groovy folk who seem to inhabit the forum herein.

Possibly as precursor to trading witty anecdotes and amusing stories...for fun!

Failing that a trans-Atlantic bun fight might suffice!

Welcome. Ever train in the US, or run into any Yank exchange officers? My unit at the 101st did a bunch with you all.

Thanks for the warm welcome lads!
I never actually did any real cross training in an organised manner with US units as such.
It was down to general proximity and circumstance that I worked along side US units.
Still gassed with plenty though, got to play with various bits of kit and have a nosey round vehicles/tech gear.

Dispelled a lot of myths...your kit was a bad as ours...although to be fair your lads always enough..and weren't adverse to beer swap.

148 Battery from my old Regt (29 Cdo Regt RA) hosted ANGLICO lads every year and vice versa.

They LOVED it over here...the "polite" and "reserved" locals, the hills, the cold, the rain, the wind, the price of the booze, the "high" standard of British transit accommodation, and compo rations (I don't care I love them).

After I moved regiments in 99 (training depot then Para), I was too busy playing silly buggers and trying to run a unit without a budget (thanks Mr Blair), so I didn't bump into any US till I got out in 04.

I worked more with US forces after I left than when I was in.
