Hi all,
My name is Rob, I was a leg 11b in the 25th ID from 99-02. I carried the SAW for the first few months, and transfered to our batallion's scout/sniper platton because I wanted to go to Ranger School before I got out of the Army. I don't want to bore you with why I didn't get the black and gold.
I didn't do anything to special in the service, just the normal schools and badges that young infantry guys go to (EIB etc...).
I got out, went to college, became a LEO, and have been one for 3 years now. I absolutely love being a Cop but...
I'm here because I'm contemplating going back into the service in some capacity (hopefully in the special operations community for one more hitch). I've wanted to do it since I was 17, and it just hasn't gone away. I understand that I cannot re-enlist for a Ranger contract, so I am just exploring my options now. One more hitch, crime will still be here when I get back.

Thank's for the welcomes. I'm going to lurk until I make a decision and embark on the new journey. I'm not a special operations guy, or a SWAT guy (my hair isn't cool enough to be SWAT, and I can't drive unmarked SUV's) so thank you for allowing me to use this site as research.
My co-workers are like, "Just go SWAT if you wanna be high speed." I guess the transistion to LE from the military is normal...but going LE back to military isn't. Anyhow, enough rambling...
Be safe,

Welcome. I took the same route. I worked for a couple PD's after I got out before hanging it up. Politics suck ass and I don't work for women, there I said it, fuck it. It looks like a natural progression or good fit, but you can't kick people's ass the same way when they deserve it, even in SWAT, and yes I was. Lucky I had other choices. Good luck, get your tab if you can.

there are several members of this board who got to BN without an OPT 40. It can be done. if you want it bad enough, you can get it.
and thanks for serving and looking at coming back.

LE politics ARE a bitch! Without going into a total rant in your house, it's very difficult to kick someboy's ass and not injure them, not get injured yourself, and be nice about it.LRSD Ranger wrote:Welcome. I did not bring this up earlier because I thought it was irrelevant, and impossible (in terms of Army bureaucracy). Trying to get into BN was what I initially asked for, and I was told not only no, but hell no so I dropped it and started looking into other options.KW Driver wrote:there are several members of this board who got to BN without an OPT 40. I figured there had to be a way, so I researched it. It looks like my only realistic shot is to re-enlist RA and try to 4187 my way in. It sounds like a long shot...
If I could pull it off and make it, that'd be great. I can only imagine the "reception" coming to a 25 year old tabless E-4 with irrelevant badges. (If you're wondering about the timeline, I was 17-20 yrs old active duty).
