My new Tat

Post by 31B_Soldier »

Just got my first tattoo. I ended up getting the praying hands, extending from the clouds, with dog tags hanging down instead of the rosary (for a Marine I lived with in Ramadi)(pics soon)
Looks fuckin sweet.

Now the reason for my post.

I dont necessarily have too much experience with the Army as a whole. Ive served under the same chain of command since I graduated OSUT. My question is for those Rangers/Veterans in a leadership position.
Basically, I want to get a few more tattoos. For yall, when you have a subordinate with alot of tats, do you have a different...I'm not sure the right word. I guess lose respect for him would be the best way to put it. I know all the regs for it, not worried about that. I just wondered how the leadership normally viewed tattoos. If I made any sense?..
...If not, remember, I am on block leave after a long and dry tour, and I'm making up for my former soberness   .

Thanks in advance for any help on this guys.

LOL Ranger RRDTm3, for 7 months I lived with an entire company of Marines. Bastards saved my life more than once, and Id gladly serve with them anyday in the sandbox again. But it has always made me worried that they voluntarily put their names on their pants so I never say the wrong name...

They have the names on the back of the trousers so you slow movers can know who you are trying to keep up with on runs.

Been too long for me since I was in, so I can't comment on current regulations regarding tattoo's, but in the civilian world, if you want a well paying job (something other than manual labor, fast food, etc..), then tats that aren't obvious are acceptable.

The minute you start putting tats on your lower forearm, neck, etc.. it will leave a stigma. There are plenty of companies (mine included) that have policies regarding (against) piercings, tattoos, etc..

I thought the same thing, but I get paid very well training Feds, and I am fully sleeved. I asked the HMFIC on my first day at work and he told me that he thought they were cool.

I'm going to agree with this, I'm almost fully sleeved and work in a local Government office as a Sys Admin. I choose to wear long sleeves most of the time because I'm aware of the stigma that tattoo's have. My supervisors have never said anything about my tattoo's other than, "You don't have to wear long sleeves all the time, it's OK.".

This is a more modern world and if people see that you are squared away and get the job done, then they won't care what you look like.

Your in a gubmint office or supporting the gubmint, that explains a lot....

I know for a fact in the corporate world, most companies will discriminate based on tats and piercings. If you want a professional job... dont do anything that could potentially screw you over in the future.

I will not hire anyone male that has visible piercings or tats. I will not hire females that have more than two piercings in each ear...it used to be two piercings total and only if those are on the ear lobe.

Call it what you want, but in my position with the clients I have, I will not take a chance that this will have an impact on our customer base. You can feel however you want, but there is still a hell of a lot of stigma against tats and piercings.

I personally dont give a crap what someone does with their body and I dont think it has any impact on the potential of an individual, unfortunately I have customers that do think negatively about people who have tats and piercings... that is just a fact of life. I have lost a huge customer when one of our reps was seen outside of work with a tat on her back.... I quote directly "The reason you are losing our business is due to the fact that we do not want to associate ourselves with companies that hire scum" They went on to say specifically that had seen this individual at the beach and she had a tattoo. The BEACH FOR Christ's sake...

Thats more or less what I was going to say.

I have 7 all together, 5 are military oriented. I've been wanting 2 more, one on the inside of each forearm for a very long time, I even have them picked out.

The only reason that I haven't gone below my elbows is that some people in this world will judge you the wrong way because of it. They'll look at the ink and not you.

Everyone has there own opinion, thats the bottom line.

And when I was the Big Sarge in Charge, as long as it didn't break regs, it was tasteful, and it wasn't a Ranger Tab before you earned it, I didn't give a rats ass.
