Introduction.

Post by 88MikeNG »

Hello,my name is Dustin.I am 30 years old and enlisted in the National Guard.
I am a high school graduate and am married with 3 children.I currently work
in a warehouse that supplies grocery stores.
I enlisted as an 88M (Motor Transport Operator) and ship to Fort Lenoard Wood 20070320 for OSUT.
Although I didn't enlist to become a Ranger,I am very interested and inspired by how hard Rangers train and by the job they do.
I am very impressed by the wealth of knowledge on this site and have had a great deal of insight into Basic Training and Physical Training because of it.
I wasn't sure if I'm considered a DEP or not because I attend Recruit Sustainment Drills each month until I ship.I wouln't consider myself a Veteran
though so i figured I would err on the side of caution.

Thank you all.

Rangers,thank you for your support.

I have a question about bankruptcy and was not sure if I should start a new thread or where to post it so I'm posting it here.

I did a search for "bankruptcy" and the only thread I found close was one dealing with being eligable for Secret clearance.

I was behind on my bills when I went through MEPS and they said they would do a credit check on me,but it must have been ok because I had my contract and was sworn in when I left.

My question is-If I filed for bankruptcy now, would it disqualify me from the Army?My wife was out of work for about 2 1/2 years after the birth of our last child which created a financial strain that has gotten worse over the years.

We are now seriously considering bankruptcy and I'm unsure how it will affect my enlistment.

Thank you for your help.

Welcome! I used to work as a security manager and special security rep at my last base.

We had a person in a similar situation to yours, who had filed for bankruptcy. Initially we had to suspend his clearence as a requirement, but we were working on getting it back for him when I left. After settling on payment plans with his debtors and the help of the commander, we were able to put a packet in to get his clearence back, and then I PCSd. The bottom line is that there was a possibility of him gaining his clearence back, but it was primarily dependent on the commander. Hopefully your recruiter will know what steps to take with whom.

If you make it in, MAKE SURE you immedietaly take advantage of the soldiers and sailors act by going to your local JAG and getting form letters for your debtors. The soldiers and sailors act forces your debtors to lower interest rates so you can better pay off your bills. The military has great financial advisors as well.

Congratulations on making this decision, and best of luck to you.
