New AR build

Post by FireFinder »

When I rebuilt my AR last year, I was stuck with a post-ban 20" HBAR barrel, A2 stock, and various other parts and gave the barrel to a gunsmith up in Washington for him to thread it, and make me a compensator.

I finally got around to somewhat finishing it (no optics yet).

Bushmaster lower receiver
SPR pistol grip (not pictured)
CMT flattop upper with laser etched T markings
CMT chrome-lined bolt carrier assembly and bolt (bolt has been Magnetic Particle Inspected (MPI) w/ charging handle
Bushmaster varminter free-float tube with bipod stud
Bushmaster 20" HBAR chome-lined barrel
I've milled the old FSB down, but haven't finished it yet.

The plan was to turn this into a varmint gun, so something in the range of 4-12x50 or something for the top, and a bipod.

So, I am fleshing out this rifle with:

ARMS 30mm High Rings
IOR Valdada 2.5-10x42 scope with MP8 reticle
Magpul PRS Stock
Harris S-LM bipod
JP trigger

The ARMS rings are on backorder, so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I have them to finish it up.

The next step is going to be another upper in 6.8 SPC. I'm also rebuilding my carbine. I've pulled the YHM mid-length quad rail, gas block, and the YHM A1 flip rear sight off and am installing the original FSB, ARMS #40L flip rear sight, Aimpoint CompM3 on an ARMS mount with cantilever spacer, and a Midwest Industries carbine-length tube with the monolithic rail.

If anyone is interested in the YHM gear, let me know.

Here are the pics:

I don't think the scope is going to mount on the 20" without swapping out the tube for a rail system, or getting an offset mount, like the Larue. The 20" still needs a trigger job, and I think a different gas block, as the hack job I did on the sight tower is pretty awful.

Here is a better pic of the new build sans glass:

Hey Firefinder:
That is one sweet looking gas gun. It looks like you could use it for 3-gun or blasting sage rats. I also noticed you shoot at Tri-County. Next time you see Gene Temple, tell him that Ed from Canby said hello. I shot a couple of CAS matches at Tri-County. If we hadn't moved, I would probably have joined up.

Sloths move at the speed of congressional debate but with greater deliberation and less noise.

Ranger HQMaggot, Gene moved to Corvallis, he lives about 10 minutes from me, I see him all the time at our USPSA Matches at ARPC. I need him to take me to shoot the BMG sometime.

Where are you at now?

I used to work for Michaels of Oregon. When Bushnell bought them, I was given the choice of moving to Kansas or being unemployed. Oregon is not a good place to be unemployed if you have a wife and kids.

As far as Gene is concerned; I met Gene through Kevin Starrett of the Oregon Firearms Federation. Gene is a nice guy and a helluva shot.
