Was it an ebay transaction? I've done business for over 5 years with PayPal.com and I've only gotten taken once in thousands of transactions. Maybe I am just lucky. It was on a pair of Birkenstock nursing clogs from an American ebayer in Germany for $80US.

Had a problem with them about a year ago, when some fucker from Gateway tried to bill the account for $1,500.00 for a laptop I never ordered or got. Like Ranger Zonk said, they eventually straightened it out. During all this, the bank waived the bounced check charges and gave me some good advice......set up a seperate checking account and just keep a minumum balance in it, then transfer just enough funds to cover whatever you buy through PayPal. That way if somebody hacks PayPal and gets your card number, they only have access to five bucks or so.

My account got hacked. Paypal said they will square up with me. I had an ace in the hole though. I was flying Atlanta to Newark during most of the transactions

That is a great idea. Thanks for letting me know about this. I use paypal all the time and never thought about setting up another account for this. Hooah.

You all may be aware of this already, but for anyone who hasn't been warned yet, watch out for the Paypal "phishing" scams. Con artists will send you an e-mail using the Paypal logo telling you to re-register before your account is cancelled or re-register because someone tried to hack your account. Although the logo and message appear genuine, they are bogus. Delete them without responding. If you are using Paypal, the genuine Paypal will never ask for your info in an unsolicited e-mail.

It is the same scam as the phony bank "phishing" e-mails. Paypal ans any bank you are using already have your account and password info, so why would they ask you to re-send it?

Be cautious, be very cautious. Never respond to unsolicited e-mail asking for any account info, no matter how genuine the logo and e-address appear. Call your bank on the phone if you have doubts.

I retired from banking yesterday after 30 years in the biz. Hooah!!

Ya know Lefty, I got an email saying they wanted to make sure everything was correct on my paypal acct to keep it active. I already don't trust it so ignored the fucking email. I'll be damned if I listen, so I deleted it.

I read an old story years ago about a guy buying a Mercedes-Benz that normally went for $52,000 and paid by paypal $37,000 for it and got beat. (My $ amount might be off but the thousands mentioned are correct).

Reading this shit has always made me suspicious and wary. Thanks for the post RGR_Dan etal.

That is exactly what I am warning about. As for the car, that brings up another current scam. People will bid on E-bay or sell through a want ad, then receive a big cashier's check for more than the selling price. The check sender instructs the seller to deposit the check and wire the difference. Seller deposits the check, wires the money, and bingo! The check is fake, by the time the check comes back the wire transfer is done and the seller's money is gone. Saw too many sad tales like this over the years.
