I am in the Tier II category and want to see if there is any waivers for this. Im prior service (US Coast Guard). I was told that since I am prior service I cant get into ranger training. But I also seen someone on here state that they were prior service and got in. Im not one to settle for no you cant. I believe there is always a way to do things, just have to find the way. Ive done research and havent found anything in regards to this kind of waiver.

Other than that I am mentally ready and willing to take any route to get to what I want. If I have to sign into the army as infantry w/ airborne and wait I will but normally there is more than one way to do things, just have to find the way. This site seems to be very informative and I would like, no I would appreciate some assistance.

I went through OSUT with a prior service guy, and he got a Ranger contract while in OSUT. He was just straight 11B before that, so it is possible to get a contract, just depends on how bad you want to get it. I think the only requirements he had to have was a 270+ PT score and a 110+ GT ASVAB score. Good luck.

Even better, maybe you could aspire to actually BE a Ranger, instead of just being called one.

I like that, Aspire to be a Ranger rather than being called one. You should write that down.

You're about to confuse the man.

He's not eligible for one.

What he read on here was about a DOS getting an Option 40.

That not a full out prior service.

What your guy got added to his contract in training was something else entirely. They have a different mission for soldiers in training than for someone of the street.

If, I may be permitted to ask a quesition, SFC Hit_it. When you say prior service barring chances to obtain a option 40, do they characterize prior Active Army service under the clause "Prior Service"? All the searches I have made, make reference to prior service being ex. Coast Guard, USMC, Navy, etc.

Thanks for your time.

A person who served in ANY branch of service is considered PRIOR SERVICE for enlistment purposes.

A person who serve ONLY in the reserve components and only has 180 days OR LESS of active prior service is considered a "days of service" DOS, or Glossary NPS applicant.

They may be eligible for an option 40 in certain cases.

Once a person has served more tha 180 days of active service they are no longer eligible.
