Have any of you heard of/are doing this?

Opinions/Advantages/Disadvantages wanted.

They're called media center PCs. I've thought about it but haven't pursued it actively.

I'd wait another year or two until the technology improves and the prices come down a bit.

http://www.htpcnews.com has an enormous amount of info. I read through some of the site, but didn't really see any reasons why you would want to do this except for free DVR, and you built it your self.

I would really like to give it a shot but cannot afford a new computer right now. I did see at Best Buy the other day this software:

If you had an extra computer I think all you would need is a tv tuner card for it and the software. I would like to have it just to watch movies I have downloaded on the big tv.
