No shit. I remember one formation on a Friday afternoon where our 1SG told us, and I quote "I can out drink, out fuck, and out fight any one of you sonsabitches any day of the week." He then went on to tell us he would be back in twenty minutes, and if he found ONE SINGLE RANGER IN A CO that was not either drunk or well on his way to being drunk, then we were forming back up for a little company PT session.
If a kid is old enough to die in war, he's old enough to enjoy a cold beer without all this goodie goodie "your're not mature enough to deal with it yet" horse shit. Guess it's a good thing I'm a Chairborne Ranger now.

No doubt. Remember though, back then if you didn't have a DUI under your belt, you weren't one of the boys.toad wrote:I guess times have changed. :( When I was in we where encouraged to drink. We had keg parties on the Co loading docks on Fridays. I will never forget the day I saw CSM Purdy go off on the lady in our PX for carding someone. When I was a cherry private thats what we looked forward to after getting smoked all week long.SupplyRanger wrote: You'll probably be another one of the dumb asses that I pop for being underage and drinking in public or buying alcohol in a TMP at the shoppett on post.
Remember making the drunks run in the back of the formation because of the smell?

No shit, that reminds me of one friday or saturday night we were all out at one of the strip clubs on VD Drive gettin liqured up when we get the annoucement for all Rangers to report back to their units. One of us (we'll call him Rock) was drunker than shit. So we all get back to Regiment, everyone is in formation in the back and Rock is weaving back and forth tryin as best he can to stand straight, sure as shit Col Downing walks by and asks Rock in a stern voice, "RANGER DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSION OBJECTIVE IS"? Rock snaps to attention and yells "YES SIR, MY MISSION IS TO KILL THE ENEMY SIR"!!! That wasn't exactly the answer we thought he was lookin for and most of us are tryin as best we can to hold back our chuckles, I'm thinkin Oh Shit, here we go, but Col. Downing goes "YOU'RE GOD DAMN RIGHT RANGER" (it wasn't a pretty site if Col. Downing got pissed off at you) the Col. does a double take at Rock sensing he's drunker than shit and he Keeps walkin, we all are like whew............about a minute later Rock blows chow in formation, 1SG "P" see's it and askes if he's ok, ROCK GOES I AM NOW 1SG burps louder than fuck and sobered up right before our eyes!!!

Rangers,
While in RIP, do you have any chance to speak to a medic? If so, will it cause you to get recycled? In Airborne school if you go to the tmc, you're recycled. But, it is possible to talk to a medic on your owntime.
Just curious.

Times have changed DRASTICLY. I used to tell my Company "Dont be that Guy". A DUI in the Division was the most painful thing I could imagine.
1. A 20 slide AAR on the failure of risk mitigation by the NCO support chain.
2. The entire COC reports to the BN Co/CSM for manditory ass rapeing.
3. The entire COC reports to the BDE Co/CSM for manditory ass rapeing.
( this is great fun on a saturday morning )
4. Alert the entire company for manditory Reindeer games. (again great fun for all ESP on a saturday or sunday.....holidays included. This is one of the reasons I have done 2 Halloweens with my kids)
5. The offending trooper, TL, SqdLdr, PSG, and 1SG reports to the DIVISION CSM with the slid presentation at 0430, the next duty day.
Ps. The division CSM doesnt want to hear that one of your soldiers got a DUI because you didnt lock him in the garage at your house over the weekend. REALLY BAD answer.

How many remember the beer machines! Our was right across the hall from the 1stSgt desk. We'd send in a diversion so could sneak a few while cleaning our weapons. He'd here the clang of the can falling and the RACE was on! Bought him many a beer. :D
Oh ya I think it was 50 cents a can. Shlitz I believe was the preferred beverage!!
