OPT 40 for National Guard?

Post by Smoke »

If this has been asked before I'm sorry, It's 0200 in Mi and I have been looking for about 3 hours. I would like to find out before I go to MEPS. I am non-glossery proir service, I didn't finish BCT. I had a torn ACL in my knee before I left for BCT, and after 7 weeks I was given a General DX and sent home. I have had my knee fixed
and am very active. I have been working on getting back in and finishing what I started, I have a unit in the MI ARNG that I have interviewed for and been accepted. It is a LRS unit. I have had a waiver done(all 1111111) for my knee surgery, eyes(Lasik), and RE code, since I never fulfilled my contract can I ask for an OPT 40 or is it toatally out of the question because I am only going to the Guard? Can I volunteer after Airborne school? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you Kris

I am not trying to take the easy way to a Ranger Tab(if there is such a way); if I wasn't married I would go active. She dosen't want to live the military life style, this is my choice and she will support me, but not move around.

No option 40 slots for the guard. There are no Ranger units in the NG.

My cousin is a NG recruiter and he keeps trying to talk me out of going Active duty...what he told me was that I could go Infantry in the NG and volunteer for airborne and RS.....I thought he was full of it but either way I am staying in active duty.

NG doesn't get very many RS and airborne school slots so it would be very tough.

NG Airborne

In the NG the LRS units get Airborne slots and what I'm told is that Ranger School comes later.

there are no career recruiters here.

guidance personell are either 79R or contract civilians who in most cases were active duty 79R with the guidance identifier (yes it's an SQI).

I won't know if there are bonuses available or not unless the Army office tells us.

Most likely, if they had to work to get you and 11X/ABN slot, the ROC said you couldn't have a bonus.

someone proof reading your contract isn't going to change that.

Just make sure you make it all the way through.

Contract

SFC Hit_it,

My recruiter keeps telling me I am considered Non-Glossery prior service,
what does that mean. Is it a real term or something to tell me so I won't ask for a bonus? There was a write up in the Ann arbor News about the ARNG giving bonuses to new and reenlistments, I'm I elgible?
