Post by AcesHigh »

Hello,

AcesHigh here, A.K.A Dylan. Im an 18 year old male out of Concord, North Carolina. Been browsing this fourm as well as many others gathering information on Rangers, Airborne, other etc... Im currently scheduled to go to MEPS Thursday of next week to swear in. Im either going 19D/Airborne or 11x/Airborne. Ranger is still an option for me, but not at this time. I would like to thank all the Rangers for their service and dedication to this country, you men are the type of men I strive to be like. Im joining this site with the hopes of learning much more and hopefully getting some faith, and words of encouragement in times of doubt (Coming from a family with not much suport in my military choice) Thank you all once again.

Good luck...FYI...19D/Airborne most likely means being a 5 jump chump after airborne school and then going to a leg unit....

What the fuck does that mean? If ya don't go Option 40 at enlistment you won't see a Ranger Battalion until you reup.

Man up and go for it.

Welcome to the board.

The 101st IS a Leg unit.

If you want an assignment with the 82nd, you simply tell them that at MEPS, that you want it in your contract. But be advised, those who serve in the 82nd first, in my mind, usually belong there and can spend their whole career there. They do not do as well trying to integrate into the 75th Ranger Regiment later as they have already been educated to a different, non-Ranger, way of thinking - habits that you have to unlearn to be effective.

If they pass RIP or ROP, they eventually have to compete for NCO slots with those who are born and raised in the Regiment. There have been a few rare exceptions, as to those who come from the 82nd and do well, but those are rare and I can't think of one that immediately comes to mind as an example.

You can be a "scout" without busting your ass because you'll never fuckin' dismount from your BFV.
