K here goes, on a 2 month old thread...
I would prefere that this could be countinued in a private location,
If any are interested I can give some super opsec stuff off what went on before the army take over. Before this happens I would like others to ask the moderator to set up an ultra private forum. This can't be public.
Admin Note: Junking OPSEC into the forum will get you banned, as it did Mr. Recon USMC, who is no longer with us. This server contains NO classified material whatsover. Later big guy.
Blackhawk Down, or front-leaning rest?
I am new here and this is a fairly old topic but here's my 2 cents.
The book and movie are probably the best we can expect from Hollywood and a writer who is trying to make money. I am just glad the boys who fought and died there were honored and won't be forgotten because of this movie and book.
Did I look up to the D-Boys? They are the varsity team. I always want to be with the best. No matter what the field. So hell yes I looked up to them.
The difference between Delta and the Rangers is the same with the Rangers and 82nd. Delta and the Rangers get to select who serves and who stays. So they are going to be better. If you can get rid of the slugs then only the best stay. The more select, the more elite.
Ranger officers are almost always highly strung. So when they showed the CO being somewhat of an ass, well I saw a few of them. High discipline
is needed when you have 18-19 year old privates. But the squad leaders and above NCO's are top notch and are better than most NCO's in the army. Shit, the privates are the best in the army. I have no idea but I would bet that most Delta operators are fomer Rangers. Just because of the mentality.
Overall a good book and movie. I take it with a grain of salt though. All I know was that I would have served with any of those guys anytime.
The ultimate compliment I can give is that "I would go to war with you" Well they earned that and then some.
