Batt placement after RIP

How do they determine which Batt you will be placed in after RIP. Im pretty sure there is a wish list. Do most people get placed where they want or is it 'by the needs of the army?' I did a search looking for my answer and came up with nothing. Sorry if this question is repetitive. Thanks.

Don't worry Snuffer just go straight to the highest ranking RIP instructor, tell him what Bn you want to be in, and he will be more than happy to assist you.
