Hi my name is Devin and I have been lurking here for quite some time. I greatly appreciate everything I have learned from this site.
Today I finished everything at Meps and the only thing left to do is obtain an 11x option 40 and sign my name. I heard a disturbing story from a SFC at Meps. Earlier in his career he went through RIP, earned his black beret, and his assignment was somewhere other than the 75th. When he complained about his assignment they tried to send him to Korea. Eventually he ended up in the 82nd. I hope this doesn't happen very often!

What that SFC told you was bullshit. The only reason you go to RIP is to qualify for a Ranger Battalion. He might have gone to RIP but he failed, quit more likely, and was sent to the 82nd. He didn't earn shit. His association with Ranger is his feeble attempt.

Don't sign a thing until it says Option 40.

I was hoping that was the case. He also said some other things that has conflicted with information I have read in books and this forum. It seems as though he was trying to discourage me from the Ranger option. He was pushing 18x pretty hard, as did my recruiter when I first met him.
To add to my intro I'm delaying my junior year of college to serve,(something my parents won't understand) Also I have been doing a lot PT recently.

Wow. Just reading this out of curiosity... it's bad enough when some idiot civilian tries to impersonate a Ranger or claims to have done a bunch of "highspeed" stuff or earned things he hasn't, but for another service member to do it? Where's the honour in that? :?

Every recruiter I encountered did the same thing with me. They will probably tell you Special Forces is "more elite" than Rangers while making hand motions like they are going up a ladder of eliteness. Just be polite and tell them you aren't interested in anything except OPTION 40.
By the way, are you a CUBS fan????
