Introduction - Gavin (again)

Post by RoswellBravo »

Hello! I’m an 18 year old from Florida currently on HBL from infantry OSUT. I am expecting to graduate January 31st and to head off to preRASP shortly after.

I had an option 40 in my contract before I began OSUT and made an introduction on this site with the same name back when I was a DEP. I became inactive on the account because for some reason I cannot login into it even though I have the correct username and password.

I am hoping to conduct a proper RFT before I get back from HBL, but I did a 5mi run on a whim yesterday with a time of 38:19. My goal is under 35, which I am hoping to achieve in preRASP.

For HRPs, my last max was 61 in 2 minutes but that was a good bit ago and, to be honest, I have done barely any independent training in the bay since turning green. I estimate my 2 min max right now at probably high 50s.

My chin ups have significantly degraded since I shipped out. I was originally at 20 (probably not perfect form though) and now I am around 12 or 13. We are the only platoon without a pull up bar in the company  . However, we do have kettlebells and do pull ups after chow so I can really only blame myself.

I have no idea what my 12mi ruck time is right now, and under the advice of others I will not attempt one during HBL. I will probably do some untimed rucking though.

Overall, I am mostly worried about my run times. Right now, I am doing weightlifting and long running since I will not be able to do them again after HBL. I am feeling confident about getting selected and am trying to learn as much about RASP as I can without having to spend money.

Gavin, welcome back.

While you prepare for Pre RASP, I recommend that you get your body adjusted to calisthenic and endurance work. This site has alot of workout threads created for people that were in situations similar to yours.

In regards to information about RASP, there are numerous threads about on the site as well. I suggest you look into the "Letters From School" thread. Also open up a post in that thread so we can track your progress.

My advice to you is that the key to graduating RASP is simple, it's either something you genuinely want to do, or it is something that you lied to yourself about. We're gonna find out which of those is true in a few months.

Dont quit, and good luck. Keep us posted.

Thank you Ranger Bugsy!

The drill sergeants are not very happy with our company so we have not been getting many day passes or phone time. Luckily we managed to get one today. They have told us that our company has a reputation for putting out successful option 40s which makes me more confident.

It’s very hard to get in a lot of running now that we are done with training and they don’t really let us go to the track that often. However, I’m confident that I can do a passing 5mi in any condition, though I still need to improve my time.

I believe we will be doing ACFT 4 next week but have also been hearing rumors that it is only for those who need to make up ACFT 3.

I am looking forward to starting pre-RASP in February and hoping that we aren’t holdovers for too long. I have also been hearing rumors that some option 40s have been going to airborne school first, but I don’t think that it’s true. A lot of options 40s I’ve been talking to have told me to buy the Ranger Blueprint so I will check that out too.
