Hello Rangers,
I'm Michael and I am 21 with aspirations to become a Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment. Ever since I was 12, I wanted to be a soldier. I've always been fascinated by stories of the Rangers and their exploits during World War 2 to the modern era. I'm about to finish my degree in History.
I'm currently one step from enlisting. I qualified for everything at MEPS to attain an option 40 contract, but there are currently none available until September. I walked away with hopes of waiting for on option 40 yesterday. Because I did not enlist, I'm currently under fire from my recruiters and others from the USAREC. My recruiters wanted me to sign an 11x without an option 40 and to renegotiate my contract to attain an option 40 before I ship in late August/early September. Deep down, I just did not feel comfortable signing without an Option 40. I have been persistent with my aspirations, yet respectable to the recruiters and others from USAREC.
Anyways, I look forward to gaining guidance and knowledge from everyone on this great forum.
I'm 6'2" 182 pounds. I have a very lean build like a basketball player and a track athlete. I truly believe I have the "Never Quit" mentality to become a Ranger. At the moment, I'm focusing on gaining more upper body strength.

Welcome, Mike, If you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you're at the right site. We at ArmyRanger.com take a great deal of pride in the young men who pass through here on their life journey. Please tell us more about yourself, and where you are from. Most of the questions you might have can be addressed by using the search feature, located on the top left of this page, in the Quick Links. Please read the FAQs, as well as select stickies and threads. I see you have completed a PT Test; but you need to use your time to work on improving your scores. Agree with your unwillingness to trust your recruiter -- to him, you're just a quota. Never, never quit!

This is a cut and paste that I just posted for another new guy, it fits you as well. Message follows;
Welcome and good for you for sticking to your guns. If that is what you want, wait it out, you're young, the Army and The Regiment will still be there when a list of Opt 40's opens up.
It could be that there are Opt 40's available right now, but the recruiters either don't know how to get them, can't be bothered with the extra work to get them, or just don't care and want to fill 11x with no add-ons.
So they yelled at you, F it, they were just trying to pressure you into signing what THEY want, and you'll never see them again once you ship.
Think of them like used car salesman. They don't give a good goddamn about you or what you want, they just need to sell the cars that they have on the lot right now.
There are some good recruiters out there though, who will put in the effort, those guys won't yell at you, or pressure you, they'll simply do their jobs and try to get you what you're looking for.
Be smart, it's your life and your chance to shape it the way you'd like. If they won't work with you, go to another recruiters office and firmly but politely state your desire for an Opt 40 and so on. You may have to wait 6 months, but that also gives you a chance to better prepare yourself for the path you're asking to take. It is not an easy one and many many men fall out along the way.
Prepare, PT, study Ranger History and don't accept anything less than what you want for yourself in life.
