Interval Training
Seems like everywhere that I read about interval training, there is a disclaimer "Interval training should only occur once per week." But try as I might, I haven't yet found a reason why I should only do interval training once per week. If anybody can enlighten me I would appreciate it.

Re: Interval Training
My workout consists of getting off the couch at a given interval(say during commercials) and getting more beer. nyuk, nyuk...NoMoreRegrets wrote:Seems like everywhere that I read about interval training, there is a disclaimer "Interval training should only occur once per week." Seriously, I was under the impression that 'interval training' is basically a cardio program that has intervals in and out of a target (80-90% of max)heart rate. If this is indeed the case, why wouldn't you be able to do this more than once per week?

By the definition of ‘interval’, that statement is not true. You DO NOT go all out for the entire run.T Kim wrote:... but with interval training, you're expected to go all out (sprinting)…
With interval training, you might jog for 4 minutes and then run for 1 minute(at 80-90% of your max heartrate) and repeat for the duration of your cardio regime.
I believe this is also referred to as ‘Fartlek’ (no laughing either) and is considered a method to increase your pace.
Agreed.T Kim wrote: Interval training should be treated like a weight training session. Your legs will need rest to avoid overtraining and even injury.

T Kim wrote:Veteran AngryPistols, there actually is a difference between the two. Interval training is when the individual will sprint with everything they have for a lap, take a short rest, and then do it again. And Fartlek is just what you described.
no no no.....don't stop and take a rest, bad for the heart.........sprint a lap, jog a lap, run backwards a lap, karaoke a lap(sideways, alternating legs), then repeat
This seemed to give me a good workout at about 5 miles.....if you can go longer it is recommended and I would add buddy carries in there if you are really serious. Now that is interval training......not just sprinting and resting. Now keep in mind that you always give your all unless you are on the jogging lap, which is just to keep your heartrate up while allowing you to catch your breath. This is the only authorized rest period.
Maybe you should listen to Veteran AngryPistols
