I may have said this before, but my wife's Grandfather, I considered him my father-in-law because he raised my wife, was a platoon sergeant on the first chalk to land on the LZ. He also fired the first shots and was the one who told them the captured boy was "no damn boy"... MSG(R) Larry Gilreath. I have had the honor of meeting Ernie Savage and Col.(R) Joe Marm also, unfortunately at Papa Larry's funeral. But they were all wonderful men, and heroes each and every one. God bless them all.

Way back in high school, I read the book Baptism, I think the author was Anthony Gwinn. It was about LZ Xray and it's sister battle LZ Albany.
Even way back then, I knew when I got older that the people that fought in those battles were the ones I wanted to be like.

I stand corrected on the author's name. It was Larry Gwin. I had to check my bookshelf to verify.
