EPA Trims Ethanol Mandate for First Time

The Environmental Protection Agency on Friday unveiled a proposal that would lower the annual requirement for ethanol used in gasoline, sending corn prices lower.

The EPA said it plans to require that refiners blend 15.2 billion gallons of renewable fuel, mostly ethanol, into U.S. gasoline supplies next year.

The new requirement would be 16% less than what Congress wrote into a 2007 law. The agency has the ability to trim the mandate.

I'll be blunt. I'm sick and tired of subsidizing farmers with my tax dollars only to have to put shitty fuel that takes more energy to produce thnt it can itself create. Extra wear and tear on my car, lower fuel economy.

Dammit, tangent time. Fuck Ethanol. fuck corn farming subsidies. If you are a corn farmer, sorry but you are seriously contributing to the detriment of this nation. Let me explain.

Ethanol is terrible for engines not specifically designed to use it. Ethanol produced from corn is much more difficult to make than that created with sugar. which is why Brazil of all countries is kicking our butts on ethanol production. Not that I want ethanol. So yeah, fuck sugar farming subsidies too.

Oh, and "Corn Sugar", the corn lobby's marketing slight-of-hand bullshit for High Fructose Corn Syrup? That shit is toxic waste, and should not be part of the human food supply.

2 weeks ago the gas in my neighborhood went down 4 cents, this week it went up 10 cents.

Papers keep printing gas price going down but never print it when it goes higher. Paper never sees nor says that.

We're down to $2.98 in my area, but the highest we ever got was $3.30.

That's one of the reasons I like driving through SC. Cheapest gas in the Southeast. I like what they are doing in NC (at least the Charlotte area). they have a little sticker that shows how much tax per gallon is being charged, as well as the tax rates for neighboring states....

E-15 is approved by the EPA, but Car makers tell people not to use it.
