Stone-tipped spears predate existence of humans by 85,000 years


Remains of the world’s oldest known stone-tipped throwing spears, described in a new paper, and so ancient that they actually predate the earliest known fossils for our species by 85,000 years.

There are a few possible implications, and both are mind-blowing. The first is that our species could be much older than previously thought, which would forever change the existing human family tree.

The second, and more likely at this point, is that a predecessor species to ours was extremely crafty and clever, making sophisticated tools long before Homo sapiens emerged.

Many years ago (1987-88) I was involved in a couple exercises held in the Nazca desert in Peru. There was a town called Ica, where they had displays of carved stones that were found all over the desert. The volume was such that it would not have been possible for them to be locally fabricated hoaxes. We went out with a Peruvian unit and I found a stone with a hummingbird carved on it.

The person, in Ica, who had the display was associated with the author of Chariots of the Gods. Some of the stones on display showed humans riding large dinasoars. Strange! This link does not do the details justice:

Interesting read never-the-less. Kinda like watching the end of Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston when we (the movie viewer) all see the remains of the Statue of Liberty.
