Greetings All-
Im a 23 year old medic in the reserves with the 411th en bde out of new york. I've been in the reserves for four years, deploying in April for the first time. On the civilian side I've got a year left for my bs in bio and should be done with my paramedic class before I leave. I've wanted to be a ranger since I was 11 and regret not going active duty right after high school but such is life. I had planned on going active duty after medical school but now I'm thinking I'd like to spend time in the regular army as a ranger medic before hand. I prefer to practice medicine in the field, that's where my passion lies. The army and EMS have only fed that fire and I know I have my whole life to pratice in a clinical setting. Im interested to see if that changes during/after my tour. In any case, if anyone has any information as to how I can earn a Ranger slot in my situation I'd be very grateful if they could pass it along. I'm actutely aware I have to go active duty to apply and have little reservations doing so but was wondering if I could ask for it in my AD contract.
Thank you all in advance and it's a pleasure to be here.
Brandon

Re: Introduction
Welcome Brandon. Be the best soldier that you can be, all around--not just medic.
Your prospects for going RA from the RC are slim, but things change from time to time. Just be ready for those moments when the window cracks open. SF & Ranger medics undergo training to perform procedures and practices no EMS protocols would allow and are held to a professional standard much higher than you are used to seeing. It will be well worth the journey--no go make your luck.
