Questions about SF86

Post by Legi0n »

Good mornign RANGERS, I am working on my SF86, I downloaded it and I am filling it out so that I have everything ready for my recruiter.
Just some quick questions.

Traffic tickets? I am reading the some people are getting questioned for not disclosing traffic tickets. My drivers licenses was suspended a few years ago, for not having insurance, It is not suspended now, and I have insurance, My recruiter says not to list this on my SF86, he says this is no big deal. Also I have a few tickets, (paid) mostly parking, I live in LA. I will be going to the dmv for a copy of my driving record, so that I can disclose everything. But My recruiter seems to think I am making it into to much of a big thing.

Also I have a question about credit. My recruiter says not to worry there will be no credit check for Option 40, but I read everywhere that I will require Top Secret clearance. My credit isn’t really bad,. But it is not good either. And once again there is a question, do you have any bills past 90 days. I had credit when I was 18 and fucked it up by the time I was 20. Recently in the last 3 years I have repaid much of my bad credit off. But I still have a few unpaid bills from 4 to 7 years ago.

My recruiter says my current bills will be no big deal, as I have a wife, and get to play by different rules. I have told my recruiter that I have two car payment for a total of 1200 a month. I would think this is a problem, No dought I will have to sell my truck, because my military pay is going to be some what less then what I make now. But he says not to worry, no credit check.. no one will be bothered by this.. My credit cards are less then 600..so I can zero them out in a month. I don’t care for credit to much, after I fucked up with it when I was young..

Any advice on how I should handle this?

now that is just stupid. you think you're gonna be able to support that on Army pay?

and you got credit cards too? you ain't too sharp up top, huh?

pay your parking tickets. clear your record. disclose your fucked up credit.

you need a SECRET, not a TS. no way you would get the latter with your credit fucked up like it is.

I agree that’s just to damn much for my whopping $1500 a month I will get to pay taxes on. I will see about selling my truck. All my tickets are paid for; I was just worried that having had them will be an issue.

what would be my pay? I figure I will be training for the first 6 months, so my pay + BAH, COLA will add up to 3k a month... then after training I am looking at 2300 a month. My wife works full time, and is going to go to school, but she will not leave her career behind, so I will have to maintain two residents, I plan on sending her $1000 a month, and living as cheaply as I can. The army will feed me, and with any luck I can stay in the dorm. I am not joining up for the pay check, I am joining for the experience, to one day look back on my life and say,, Yeah I was a soldier once. i think that by becoming a soldier, i will be a better person

With out knowing your zip code for where you are at now and your entry rank it's impossible to tell how much you will make.

I believe SFC Hit It has already mentioned this, while drawing BAH, living in the barracks is a privilage. You may have no choice to move out if they run short on room. That also goes for your BAS which pays for meals. The Army will feed you but you in turn pay $3.25 per meal at the DFAC.

Legion, i understand both you and your wife's POV. but you have to look at something here. how do you expect to maintain 2 households on that kind of pay. I'M BY NO MEANS SAYING DON'T JOIN. what i am saying is that you and your wife need to go over this plan again.

for my second tour at campbell, i tried this crap. worked for about 3 months. when another NCO came in, i was out on my ass in 24 hours. luckily i found a trailer and my best friend (NSDQ) sucked it up and moved in with me. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY I MADE IT. and i slept on the floor until i could scrounge for a bed and a couch. we ate a lot of RAMEN and drank cheap ass whiskey.

how much does your wife make? do you own a home? if she will make more than you, why are YOU sending money? which BN will you wind up in? what's the cost of living there? what's the cost of living at your current location? how often will you have enough money to go visit?

all things that need to be discussed in depth. and remember every potential solution bring additional problem. when you guys decide on a course of action, let us know.

My wife is making 37k a year, + some overtime. Our rent is exactly $1100 a month, for a two bedroom in Glendale, Ca.(91203) She is thinking of taking on a friend as a roommate so that she will only be paying ½ of everything. But it is still something to consider, I can loose my dorm Like SFC Hit_It said with only 24 hours notice. And as I also will have to sell my truck, this would leave me homeless and vehicle less. If I am not living in the dorm then I need a way to get to the base. I can keep my truck and apply my bonus to it, and refinance, but then my payments will still be about $500 a month. (currently $800) My wife can handle her own payments.. But there are other problems, What if my wife looses her job at some point...

We are going to get a joint account where a portion of both ours checks are deposited, and use for automatic bill payment, the rest will be an allowance. Right now, after we pay our monthly bills, Car, truck Utility, rent, insurance, and all of the extras we have about $2500 left… (witch we blow on bullshit) so in the 6 months until I am looking to ship out we can save at lest $12,000, My job will also pay me all of the PTO that I have, about 7k worth. And for the first 6 moths I can live on 200 a month, as I will only be in training. So I think it can work.. I am going to sit down with my wife tonight and run some hard numbers. i think I can make it work. But I have to plan in advance for loosening my free room and board.

$3.25 for a meal is a deal. That’s less then $10 a day and only 300 a moth. Shit I wish I could eat for that cheep now.

Who could ever give up drinking.. that would be like giveing up sex, or air.

You know the more I think about it,.. Maybe I should forget the RANGER option.. I would like to be in the REAL Army,,, and all, but shit. I am going to have to really suck it up.. more so then the 18 year old, with no bills or worries in life. Maybe I should be looking at the guard.. I can still get an airborn contract, but then I would not have to leave my job, and if I am deployed to Iraq, my company will pay my salary –military pay.

What the fuck are you talking about? Are you saying that if you weren't a Ranger then you weren't in the REAL Army? Yes the Rangers get more specific Training and are an elite force but EVERY job in the military regardles of where it is, is important to the daily mission. Fuck you and your attitude.
It's all good.
