the short answer is it doesn't matter. what matters is can you and your family deal with married life in the military, during wartime. it was hard enough with only one deployment to a combat zones, plus plenty of time away for training.

you can research all you want. but it'll still be a leap of faith. I applaud you trying to gain and make an informed choice, but only you and your wife will know if you can hack it and stay together as a family. and as much as you read, you have to live it to know.

Rangers, thank you for your responses.

Ranger KW Driver, Thanks for the feedback.

I can't even comprehend the changes that an individual goes through before, during, and after the military. It's definitely an experience that I'm curious about.

17, 19, yes, met my future wife after my first deployment, got married right before my 5th, 24.

When my future wife and I first started dating, and things were looking to be more than a short fling, I told her that I will be gone frequently and sometimes unpredictably, and that she won't be able to know every single detail of my day every day, and if she wasn't ready to live that life, we should just shake on it and part our ways. Luckily, she was ok with it, and she turned out to be incredibly supportive and the best Ranger wife a guy could ask for. How succesful your relationship is in the army is all dependant on you and your wife/life partner/friend for the night. For what its worth, I have noticed that the most succesful marriages in Batt., usually involve a very independant wife, instead of sitting around dwelling on the negative while there husband is off, they are living there own life, which makes time go by faster and the marriage healthier. Others may have different experiences, but this is just my view from personal experience and what I have witnessed.
