For those who have not seen it. This article was in this months VFW Magazine, written by Gary Linderer. He is a Vietnam veteran of L Company (Rangers), 101st Airborne and author of five books on the Rangers. Many of you probably know him personally.

Gary is a very good writer. The shitty reality of the LRRP/Ranger units in Viet Nam was that not very many officers knew how best to utilize them......but they all wanted to try.

I never wore a cape, but I still have my dog tags.

I've heard that from almost every single Viet Nam Ranger I have ever spoken to. Must of been extremely frustrating. My beret is off to you gentlemen every single day for leading the way.

Thank you for posting this piece. This is the first account I have ever read of what happened to James Champion, who's MIA bracelet I used to have years ago. It was my understanding that he was the only 'Nam era Ranger to have ever been listed as MIA. I initially learned about him during RIP from one of our instructors. Do any of you have any other information about Champion that you could share with the group?
To all of you whom served in Indochina, you have my deepest respect...quite honestly, reading about Vietnam era Spec-Ops was part of the inspiration for me to join the Rangers during my time in the service. All of America owes you gentlemen and your comrades you lost in country an immeasurable debt of gratitude.
Rangers Lead The Way.
