Introduction update (civilian airborne dad)
Rangers:
Thank you for your service.
I have continued to read posts on this site most days. It is at the top of the list as far as information. Considering you are the best of the best, I always check your site first. I don't post much out of respect for your brotherhood, but every once in awhile I am compelled to.
The thought struck me today I should update my information, as my introduction in May stated my son was option 40 and going through RIP. He left RIP in the second week (no excuses, and he doesn't talk about it) and landed in a scout platoon in a deploying unit early next year to Afghanistan. Apparently he shoots well. He is part of a sniper group and loves his job.
Tons of respect to all of you for taking care of the bad guys over there so we don't fight them here.
Thank you for your service.

Sorry your son didn't reach his original goal. Being a Ranger isn't for everyone. I'm grateful for his service in whatever capacity.

Thanks for the update kohlerdrums. I agree with Slowpoke entirely.
When I got into the service - Airborne was at the top of my list to attend of which I am still proud of (to be a graduate of) to this very day.
Its been 5 years already that our military/contractors have been engaged with the enemy and have forced him to retreat - being in todays military is not easy, it takes men of great consternation & heart to achieve the small goals of our country. Your son is one of those men to be counted upon in these trying times. Kudos to you kohlerdrums on raising a fine son.

Rangers:
I thought I'd give you an updated update, like two years later. After serving in Eastern Afghanistan for a year as part of a scout platoon which went on missions with SF and Rangers (he called you guys high speed for obvious reasons), my son put in for SF. He asked his mother and I to not tell a soul, not even family, while he went through SFAS at Ft. Bragg. He was selected for the Q course late last week.
I appreciated your classy and thoughtful responses a couple of years ago to this "rookie" dad's questions. Thanks for your service.

CONGRATS, Dad ! You have every reason to be extremely proud of your son. I'm glad to hear his tour went well in harm's way.
And thank you for raising such a fine young warrior.

Re: Introduction update (civilian airborne dad)
Outstanding. More than a few SF around here.
My money is on him succeeding. Aside from having a combat tour behind him - he now knows if he has an appetite for war.
He's busting his ass to shake that RIP monkey on his back right off.
Thanks for raising a warrior & for hanging around back here.
