I was Guard after the Regular Army, both of my deployments for GWOT were with the Guard.
I'm retired now, but miss the Army a lot.
Welcome brother.

Welcome bud. Don't sell yourself short man, you signed up and showed up, more than a lot of others have done.
Geez, you'd think we're a bunch of no love having motherfuckers that only want to play alone in the dark with NOD's and a shiny new knife while smearing baked beans all over ourselves and waiting for a racoon to add some meat to the cup.
It's cool man. Come sit by me.

Re: Intro
This is the 'Intro' section, there are better area's to find your answers and ask questions than here. But I'll answer you briefly, going to Ranger School does not afford one the opportunity to wear a beret, at least back then when big army still wore pc's, serving in the Ranger Regiment (did) does. Two different animals bud.It was honestly the last thing (head gear) that really got on my nerves. After basic and AIT I went back to my unit and really got on my recruiter, 1st seargent, section sergeant, commander, and whatnot about going to airborne and ranger school. I did this nearly every week for months hanging out in various offices basically trying to find a way to get that school. I really had the bug and wanted black beret so bad I almost couldn't stand it and I told everyone who would listen that's what I wanted. But nogo. That unit had no place to put a Ranger and had no airborne section either and when I said I wanted to transfer to another unit they told me they couldn't because they needed the man power there.
No way too feel about it, AR670-1 states that you shall wear it and how to wear it properly, it's out of your hands, though I understand what you're saying. Army standard. No use arguing it. Rangers got their own color in the Tan Beret and it has a tremendous amount of history behind it already. We drive on bud, as good soldiers do.I really wasn't happy of course. There was that huge debate with a lot for the beret and a lot against it. I really don't think they should have done that and to have one just handed to me felt insulting for some reason. I can't really explain why I don't like the thing since the Rangers now wear tan. Maybe I'm just sort of old school with that. I have no idea how you guys feel about that either.
Take your welcomes and go look around, lot of good info here if you're interested in trying out for the Regiment.
