I was curious if anyone knows whether or not you have to wait until you have to reenlist to get RASP. I already have the paperwork in for ranger school and i have a slot for when we get back to bragg, but i desperately want to get to batt, and i'm not sure if i have to wait until my contract is up to reenlist for RASP. can i just keep putting forms in until they ship me back to benning after Ranger school? i definitely know i'll need recoup time after that, but i can't imagine waiting more than a year after Ranger school to finally get to RASP. i'm really only asking because it seems like every member of our upper leadership just cares about numbers, and i don't want them BSing me (as they do so many other soldiers) just to get their kicks. if any Ranger can give me a no-bullshit answer, i'd be deeply obliged.

Re: RASP and reenlistment
Someone will be along shortly to help ya with your question, but here is some food for thought....
I graduated Ranger School, took a civi flight back to 2nd Batt. the very next morning, and about 72 hours later I was jumping into Germany with the entire 2nd Batt for training, humping a heavy-ass ruck over some hills.
No rest or re coup. Thats life in a Ranger Battalion.......and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

Re: RASP and reenlistment
roger Ranger513. and that's pretty badass. i can't imagine what Ranger school is like, but all the officers who have the tab around here says that it's just a 2-month long suckfest, and that it took them a bit to fully recover. the RASP babies here (lower-enlisted joes) tell some pretty horrific stories from the selection process too. but i would rather NOT go to RASP right after Ranger school. i'm pretty sure that would break my body and put me in a coma. i'm not that studly.

When I was in Airborne school, the RIP recruiter was there and was giving guys the opportunity to go to RIP. I did not jump on the opportunity and I have always wondered how things would have turned out for me if I had. Don't put yourself in the position that leaves you wondering if you have made the right decision or not. Take whatevers offered to you whenever it is offered.

Re: RASP and reenlistment
You don't have to Re-up to get a slot at RASP ... There is a packet on http://www.benning.army.mil/75thranger" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I don't have a Ranger Tab or Airborne Wings. When I submitted the packet I called the recruiter letting him know my packet was submitted and 2-3 weeks later I had orders. I'm still deployed and I did it while I was here. As far as what the recruiter told me if you go through RASP as an NCO you will automatically have to go to Ranger School, which will be included in your Pipeline.

Good luck getting your unit to release you after they send you to school. More than likely your commander will toss any 4187 you send his way for at least 12 months.

And you might want to work on that.HooahParatrooper wrote: but i would rather NOT go to RASP right after Ranger school. i'm pretty sure that would break my body and put me in a coma. i'm not that studly.
