When they were building an extension of the subway in Frankfurt, a 2000 pound bomb detonated. The hole was so big, they decided to create a shopping area in the subway stop. I would bet that there are a lot more in Former East Germany just waiting to explode.

I forget whether it is the French or the Belgies that have lost the equivalent of a light battalion of EOD techs since WW2 - some 500 to 600+, averages ten per annum.

and have the resulting explosion level a city block? Remember, we were dropping these things on the cities, not the farms.

I wonder how much the US is going to pay the germans for the damage. I expect Obama, to come on tv and apologize for our war atrocities momentarily.

The following is taken from the news article:

"In the whole of Germany, more than 2,000 tons of American and British aerial bombs and all sorts of munitions ranging from German hand grenades and tank mines to Russian artillery shells are recovered every year."

They are still taking it from themselves and the Russians too. War is Hell, living in an active munitions field is hazardous to you health.

Just remember, they brought it on themselves. They are still receiving the dividends of the investments they made in trying to blow every country in Europe and beyond to Kingdom Come.

I read an article years ago, maybe in American Heritage, about France's annual "harvest of iron", unexploded WWI artillery shells dug up inadvertently by farmers plowing their fields every spring. That EOD bureaucracy is supposed to be the most dangerous government job in France.
