11b to 35l and other intellegence questions

Post by Hitokiri »

Hello Ranger I have another question
I want to know a little bit more about intellegence mos's like human intellegence, intellegence analyst, and if they are anything similar to counterintellegence analyst.
I know that you can not enlist as a counter intellegence analyst but, is it possible or would they even consider training someone from 11b into 35l.
Oh and do you have to extend your contract when you do change mos's
thank you in advance

I doubt you are going to be able to get much extra information on those jobs due to what they are. Most of the details that anyone will give you are the same that you can find from a recruiter or by searching on the army website.

As for changing your MOS... the easiest way and only way I've known people to do it is when you are re-enlisting. It depends on the In/Out calls for each MOS if you can do it or not. So if you want to do some kind of Intel job you may want to just enlist for that to ensure you get in the field.

I will try to put it in layman's terms for you:

If you are considering re-enlisting for an intelligence MOS you need to decide if you would rather be the person COLLECTING the information or the person who ANALYZES it and DECIDES WHAT IT ALL MEANS. A collector has a very small focus on their tiny little piece of the puzzle; conversely the analyst will be better informed on a grander scale because it is his job to 'put the whole puzzle together.'

There are different types of collectors; your recruiter can provide a summary of what each one does. Analysts in the Army are just that - they can and do analyze data from all of the disciplines to create a sound picture out of the overall 'puzzle.'

Personally, I am a human intelligence collector in the Regular Army nowadays. Everything in life has it's highpoints and low points, but I found the highpoints in this career field so rewarding that I would recommend it to anyone, despite the drawbacks. Just make sure you get a language in your contract.

Good Luck
