Re: Propayne7-Introduction
To be honest, it looks challening and something that will keep me interested. Also, I would like to learn about explosives and hopefully it will open a door to a civilian bombsquad job.

Re: Propayne7-Introduction
It better keep your interest. Talk about a job where you need to pay attention to all the details. Losing interest at the wrong moment could be a bit disastrous. Good luck and do learn all you can.propayne7 wrote:To be honest, it looks challening and something that will keep me interested. It is challenging and can open doors for civilian employment. Unfortunately you will not learn a ton about explosives per se. You'll learn crap like this piece of ordnance contains 4 pounds of Composition B etc etc.propayne7 wrote:To be honest, it looks challening and something that will keep me interested. I promise you that if it doesn't keep your interest your team leader is going to yank you from status and you'll be back in mechanics land faster than you can type 89D. Remember that the EOD Crab is awarded after you've graduated NAVSCOLEOD and only becomes a permanent award after you have been assigned to specific TOE/TDA EOD positions AND HAVE performed the job satisfactorily for 18 months.

Re: Propayne7-Introduction
al_2ndWolfhounds, thank you for your input.
Fusion94, thank you for your input as well and for sharing your experience. I believe it will keep my intrest because it will be something I've never touched before. I was a mechanic before I joined, and still continue to mechanic on my own vehicles and friends. Also, the idea of a tighter knit unit seems to be more appealing than the way of the "Big Army"; but hopefully I don't just have a case of "The Grass is Always Greener...."
Most importantly, I look forward to doing a job that many do not do, and keeping Soldier's safer in the meantime.

Do yourself a favor, don't try to get any OJT(on the job training) for EOD while you are there. Come back healthy and THENpropayne7 wrote:Update. Got a deployment order today to Afghanistan this summer. EOD will be on the back burner until then.
